Reliability of SF Turbo kit?
aight fellas....im doin some work on a friend's car. at first she wanted me to make it look good, now she's talkin bout she wants to go fast too. well, i dont wanna make her broke with a K20 swap. so i figured a SF turbo kit would be good. but im curious to just how reliable and efficient the kit is. remember, it is gonna be mostly driven by a girl (with a relatively light foot) who doesnt know anything bout motors or mechanics. i'm thinking the basic SF kit at 6-7 lbs, with AFC(dyno tuned), upgraded clutch, turbo timer, boost controller, and 2.5 exhaust would make a fun daily driver for her. but who has been running this kit the longest? i dont wanna install it for her then find out a rod broke a few months later. i guess what im asking is do yall think the kit is a good idea? i'll be driving/checking it out occasionaly and making sure things are in running order. there arent any other kits available are there? also, when is the HASport kit for the B series swap supposed to come out? thanks.

There are going to be bugs. Nearly any time that you boost an n/a motor, you're going to have some kinds of issues, however minimal. Some people (like me) have bad luck. I blew my motor after not even 500 miles on my engine. I realized what went wrong after the fact, installed a new motor and haven't had any major problems since. And it's almost been 10k miles now. The problem is, is that if something does go wrong and she doesn't realize it until it's too late. The good thing is is that a slightly used motor can be found for 500.
It's a crap shoot but if it's installed properly and she's lucky, she may have no problems. In theory, if nothing goes wrong (even if she beats it) it should still remain pretty reliable.
As far as ordering an SF kit, it's a good product but a very long wait. So be prepared to wait 3-6 months for a full kit. Otherwise, you can always do some research and piece a very good kit together with just a little less $$.

SF kit isnt going to cause any harm to her internals at 6 or 7 psi. I'd either go that route or if you know what you are doing, piece a kit together and save her some money for guages and a clutch.

I have the kit and am a girl- like everyone else seems to say, there are some minor bugs to work out w/ having a turbo but nothing that you or her if she is into cars can't handle-
believe me, stay D17, SOHC motors CAN be fast!
