Possible DIY Lowering Compression

Not sure if this belongs here or in tech, but seeing as though it may be beneficial to F/I junkies, I'm posting here.

Before you ASK!!! YES, i searched. And...I looked up this part on hondaautomotive.com and wasn't able to find anything indicating whether or not there was a difference in thickness between the DX head gasket and the EX head gasket. Now I know that ther are companies from which we can order head gaskets as well (at least that's what my search suggested)....but I just want an answer to this specific idea.

As most of you know, a thicker head gasket would lower our compression. So basically, what I wanna know is....is there a difference between the DX/LX/EX head gaskets as far as thickness is concerned?? And if there is....can they be swapped between the EX/LX/DX?? If this is possible...we've got a way to lower the compression on our EX's a bit, for boost.

Assumingly that lowered ur compression. Wonder if it would be equal or greater w/a DX head gasket?? Any idea how much the compression was affected by this??

the pistons were 9.0 to 1 and then there were two headgaskets on it and the piston didnt even come to the top of the deck, i cant pinpoint how much the two headgaskets affected the ratio, mainly bc i did everything at once, plus we didnt care to take the extra time to find out exactly what the CR was

Ahhh i see. Well thanks for the suggestion. I truly appreciate it. And i'll definitely keep that in mind.

Still would like to know the answer to the DX/LX/EX gasket question in the meantime. So if ya hear anythin, be so kind as to post it up or PM me. Otherwise i might give your approach to it a try.

the gaskets are the same, the difference in compession comes from the pistons...

Project2k2 is on a distinguished road
hmm well being if it was opposite, I would have a change to higher my compression. Sweetness, someone look into this!

CivicMexicano is right. Called up the local honda dealer parts dept. to verify and they informed me DX/EX gaskets have the same part # therefore there's no difference in thickness. I didn't ask about the LX, but I assume it's the same as well. Don't see why they wouldn't be, but if any of you guys wanna double check, call ur local honda dealer parts dept.

Guess the only viable alternative is what C2iovoic did...doubling up on the gaskets to reduce compression.

I also found in my search here on 7thgen that the GX pistons provide lower compression. So that might be ur other solution. But before goinon a missiont ryin to find those, i'd prolly just go w/custom pistons.

Hope this was helpful to some of you.

if and when anyone does the doubling of the HG, remember to watch the torque on the head, main reason is, over time the two will press together with the pressure leaving a gap, ull have to retorque the head, not a major problem, but if it goes unnoticed the car could blow the gasket, get coolant in the cylinders, and over heat and all that good stuff, reason i know is, mine did that, we just caught it before something bad could happen
