Timing Issue with Turbo

Ok I did some search but didnt find what I am looking for.

What I want to know is that by installing the SF Turbo kit and running 10 psi (once in a while) on a complete stock engine and leaving the ignition timing as it is, what would be the result in terms of engine damage etc. ????

Thanks!

With force inducted engines it is common practice to retard the ignition curve. With SF kit and alcohol injection, you "should" be fine at 10 psi especially if its only once in awhile. If you are worried or can't bounce back from any problems that may occur, I would advise you not to push the engine that far.

With alcohol injection, timing retard shouldnt really be necessary. And if you WERE to attempt it...I wouldn't do it without a dyno session. You should be FINE at 10psi. I just wouldnt run it like that for "daily" driving.

True - however one has to remember that with alcohol injection it all depends on how good of an alcohol system is installed. You can't just slap a spray nozzle in the charge pipe and call it a day.....The alcohol dispersion pattern has to be consistant enough so that it is distributed equally (or close to) between cylinders - otherwise you really aren't getting the best benefit from it (ie cooling effects). This is why I don't plan on running one. You cannot be sure if all of your cylinders are getting the same amount (or any for that matter) - damage is more likely to occur than if you did things properly and retarded timing up top....

Just my $.02....

general rule of thumb is.....for every increase of 100 hp, you should retard the timing 1 degree.
