Question type r vs. type s

i know i want an k series motor, and i used to be positive that i wanted the type s motor. but now i am looking at the rsx type r motor, but i have a few doubts. first of all, since it is not made in the u.s., will aftermarket parts be very difficult to get? And is the price difference worth it for the extra 20hp that the type r has? If you can, tell me the price difference between the two, that would be appreciated.

are you going turbo a later time?

because if you are.. then Go S (if cheaper)

S got lower compression.

^^^^^^^LOL Type S has 11 to 1 compression. The Type R has 11.5 to 1 compression.

There are a lot of difference between the K20A and K20A2. Search. This has been talked about lots of times.

Plus I seriously doubt you will be able to get everything you need for $5800. What about a new radiator? K20A3 axels? Or are you going to swap your suspenion out to be a 5-lug. What about Hasports mounting kit or their wiring harness? Plus all the other little ends and odds needed to complete the swap.

K20A2s run for about $4000.

tried searching. at this moment in time, with the 4 reputable shops in my area, the type-r is a lot easier to find than the type-s

I'd go with the type-s. It is cheaper and you can make it street legal if desired because of U.S. specs. The type R only has like 20 more hp and about 18 pounds of torque. <--off the top of my head> Hondata does have a chip out that will give you Type-R specs. I've seen prices for the Type-s and Type-r and there actually about the same. Don't forget you will need the steering column, and key to make things easier or you will have to pay Honda to reprogam your old transponder on your key to talk to your new ECU. Type-S is better way to go I think, and chip it. If you need help just send me a tell.

^^^^^^Ok I'm going to correct you. The K20A2(Type S) goes for around $4,000. The K20A(Type R) goes for around $5500. You get more than just extra hp and tq. You get LSD, higher compression, more aggressive cams, aluminum oil pan(keeps the oil cooler), higher redline, and a few other things.

No matter which one you get, take your car to Honda and have the reflash your key code to the new ECU. DO NOT switch out the steering column. Unless you want to have to use two different keys. One to unlock your car and one to start it. It only cost lke $60 to have them reflash it. Not a big deal.
