Hi i'm about to get stationed at Fort Hood. I'm currently in korea. I was wandering what the emissions laws are for that area if anyone knows. I've looked it up online and the sites i found say only certain areas have emissions testing and laws but i haven't found anything on the Kileen area. If anyone could help me that would be great.

IDK. Most of Texas is free from the emissions test. It's usually only the counties with big cities.

btw- I thought being in the military you could keep it registered in the state your from. ie: your state of residence. Is this not true anymore?

The easiest thing to do would be to call the county where the car will be registered and check with them just to be safe!

I am sure your already here, but I live in Waco tx, and if you are still interested there are no emissions laws, just keep a cat on it, in case they use a mirror, have a free flow or have it hollowed out whatever. My cougar and t-bird had not cats at all and no 02 I never had problems getting them inspected, but I had the chips programmed to turn off all my emissions so that the check engine light wouldnt come on and no code was thrown. I had no smog pump on the cougar and no egr on the bird, they were legal till I sold them in march. Any way I hope that helps, oh and killen has alot of cameras at the red lights so stop at them and if you roll over the line too much it will get you even if you stop, so shoot it the finger while you roll through, lol. Closest counties to Killeen with emissions test are williamson and travis counties. As long as your residence isn't in those counties your fine.

You can register your car in the state that you claim permanent residence in as long as you have an address in that state that you can have everything sent to (only cause you are military). I register my cars in Cali even though I am stationed in NJ. It takes awhile to do it by mail. I would just get it registered in Texas, they have extremely lenient laws concerning inspections. And it is cheap for registration/title fees also.

For me, it was based on your home of record, and they sent everything directly to me. I think it depends on your state and where you're at anyways. For nevada, if I was in a county that required emissions checks, I had to send in a smog test report with my out of state residence waiver thingy. Since I was always stationed in a county that didn't require emissions testing, I just had to get a notarized signature saying that "i live in a county that requires no emissions testing, and upon my return to clark county (vegas), i will get my car smog checked"

Well Koo, ur Headed My Way, I'm actually Stationed @ Ft. Hood. but yeah The laws are very lenient around here, U can actually get ur car Registered and Inspected on Post and they are pretty good about help'n U out. What they said above is True, u can claim your state of resident and keep that, But I would recommend changing over 2 Texas, and you more than likely will fall under Bell County, So If u wanna Kno word 4 word their Emission laws Just Google It. Hope Dis Helps Bro

Oh and Bell County doesn't require Emissions Testing
