Looking for shop for swap.

Hey. I'm getting dangerously close to getting a k20 to swap in my civic, but I don't know of any good shops in the area. I live in austin, and was wondering if anyone knew of any good shops around here that could do the swap? It'll drive me crazy until I find one. Thanks in advance.

Matt

ProTech is good but they can be *** holes some times and they can also be a little expensive. The only thing you can do is call them if you havent already. Their number there is 512-834-8771. Hey man what part of Austin you live? I live up north in Cedar Park. Check out my page at www.atkipage.50megs.com. I am getting a quote from them at about 1pm today. Ill post what Im trying to get and the quote when i call and get the info.

I live in the northwest hills area, right off of mopac @ far west blvd. Please post what you find out! I had seen a guy wearing a pro-tech shirt one day when I was having lunch, but I didn't know they did swaps...

Ok well heres the deal with protech. I got the quote and the want $4600 Installed. Now this includes only the motor(b18c), ECU(GSR),Wire Harness, and motor mounts. Then I asked for a Drag Turbo Kit and they want another $2800 for that. Then I also asked to get a LSD and they said about $1500 installed. Making a grand total of $9600. Well if you ask me thats a little expensive. But thats what they quoted me. Now he did say that it might be a little LOW or a little high. I dont know. I could do it myself for cheaper...Well thats my 2 cents. I am also calling a few shops in Houston and getting quotes from them. Haven got anything yet though.

I'm wanting to do the k20a2 swap if possible. I found one from a salvage company nearby. They want 6k for it, but I think they can go lower I think it's the most trouble-free swap for 7th gens. I also think that some of the rsx parts don't swap in, and that si parts are needed instead, like for the axels. Someone correct me if I'm wrong...In any case, I don't know nearly enough about engines/cars in general, and was hoping to find a shop that would say,"ok...you need this, and this, and this, and we can get it for this much" but at the same time, not bullshat me. I think that shop only exists in an ideal world

As for doing it myself, I probably could...but it would take me about a year I simply don't know the ins and outs, only the basest of basics. That's sort of a problem for me...by the way, where do you guys get your car experience from? I've got pretty good experience with i.c.e., but that's just from trial and error. I've never done any mechanical work to my car (or any car). I think I could handle a cold air intake or something of that nature, but an engine swap or turbo install I think is just a bit outside my abilities now. Hey...do you think that if I paid a little extra, the shop would let me watch and learn as they installed the new engine? That'd be sweet!

Anyway, keep the comments coming!

Matt

Ya the only thing i can say is to give Protech a call and see what price quote they give you. But as for the experiance in the mechanical field....well just like you and your I.C.E, trial and error......just more expensive. Some times i think i have more coffedence than i should because i get curious and ill just start working till its done. I usually get it done but it dont know any of the short cuts....untill after i complete the job. Well anyway........Like i said just give the shop a call see what they say.

well.... from my experience i would never call pro-tech, because they some rip off. most people in austin know not to go there for parts or labor because they be over charging. i think you would be better off finding a place in houston or san antonio for a better deal... just my 2 cents from experience from them.

thanks guys. I didn't have the first clue.

bWear210, you don't happen to know the cost of your friends swap do you?

k20txem2, thanks for the site, prices are great there compared to other online prices!

So, what's the difference between a "full swap" and "front clip?"

full swap-engine, tranny, sub-frame, wiring harness, ecu, axles
front clip-the whole front half over the car.

You'll have most of the parts needed for the swap.

A "full swap" doesn't get you all the parts?

for my friend richard he got his h22 swapped in for about 800, but it is because he is a regular customer and a good friend of his. it was a clean job and was ready in about 5 days due to waiting for parts. its a good shop.
