It's a big job that I wouldn't mess with, and you could throw off the timing. I think mine's a bit off and the belt is already looking old. You guys can't see it because there's normally a plastic cover over the belt and cam gear.

Just pay at the dealer and have it done right if you trust your dealership. This is one of the few things I would have them do. You don't want to risk it breaking and then your car is screwed.

Go to the dealer or someone you trust. It's not a bolt-on mod.

If you are in school, can you take it to class and do it for a class project. I would at least ask your teacher, that is what you are there for.

Basically the school isnt just how to learn how to change everything on a car, but to learn how everything works. At the same time, they teach you how to diagnose stuff and somethings how to replace. I just got done with basic engines and learned alot about what to check on a cooling system, how to check pistons, piston rings, valves, valve stems, etc...

But yes there are certain cources where you can bring in your car and get help with certain things. Doing the timing belt would be too much of a hassle because with the 6 hours of class we have, we have 2 breaks, and It is going to take longer and I need my car for after school They would give me general help though. But during the tranny cources, kids do bring in trannies from other cars and we do work on them. Same with the brakes cource, we have a shop lab with about 9 bays and a alignment machine, and sometimes we use kids cars to work on.

I understand how to sorda do it, with keeping the camshaft gear and crankshaft pulley at TDC, but I am still curious about how to give the belt tension. And some other things. I am slowly learning though.

After spending all night changing my timing belt, I still don't fully know how my friend and I put the tensioner on successfully... lol.

But we did it. :-p
