b16a for hatch?

I live in S CA. I wanna do a swap for my civic hatch 98 with b16a sir 2. But the problem is i heard it won't pass smog check. Any advice on how to swap it legally so i won't have any trouble with the cop or the smog? Cause last time a cop pull me over and he asked me to come to the special place to do smog check. So I don't want it happen to me again if i put the new engine in and it won't pass.

You would need a B16a3 which is the USDM 99-00 Si coupe in order for it to pass smog legally. Not many of the j-spec motors would pass smog unless u swapped a j-spec into an si or a b18 to a gsr or type-r

Yea... most swaps aren't smog legal if they're J spec (JDM) I have a JDM B20B4 with B16a swap (Da FrAnKeNsTeIn) and I can't pass smog even if I wanted to... kind of sucks in a way, but it gives me a lil bit more ponies than usdm... and it's cool not having all that smog vaccums hooked up and sensors... cat... USDM GSR legit engine would probably be your best bet if you want a swap. In a hatch it would be coo. My boi has a '92 hatch with a JDM B16a swap and he is quick and so could you I'm not even gonna say if my car is quick enough cuz it's still not running how I want it to. Upgraded internals is always a plus.

I asked this guy who live in long beach, he said that he had to take his car to referee state smog station when he change his engine, and they want it to be exactly same setting as OBD from the original car that he pull out. He said that they'll follow you throught when you swap the engine. If anything they see didn't fit or if the timing is off a little they'll fail you . Then you have to bring the car back home and reset it till it's exactly right. He said that he had to go there and do it about 14 times Would there be any other easier way?

From what that guy told me, just a cat and usdm engine won't be enough. So i change my plan to vtec and jackson supercharger. At least i would still get some speed? What do you guy think? Oh yeah i got Phillips hid, so freaking bright and good. So next time if you thought you see a lexus or bmw and it turn out to be a hatch, it might be me
