Help with Upgrades
Help with Upgrades
So i have 2008 honda civic dx manual shift standard set. I bought it originally when i was driving 77 miles one way to work. I am in the navy and now only live 5 minutes from work and would like to now enjoy the car that i was so eager to buy. I am on deployment right now and my dad has my car to watch over. He has a kick *** mechanic and i wanted to get some things done to it while i was gone.
I'm not very car saavy but would like to learn...alright so here's the question...What do you guys/gals suggest? I love to drive and though i dont need a freaking rocket in my car, i would like to boost up the acceleration a little as well as suspension and a little flash for looks...you can respond on here or if you take the time you can e-mail me! I appreciate all the help and look forward to learning plenty!

Re: Help with Upgrades
Full coilovers suspension so you can decide the height of the car. Go with good brands like Tein, Progress, Eibach etc
Honda factory lip kit?
Rims? 17-18 would look great on your car
Other than that sorry I dont know much about 8th gen engines....

Congrats on the new car but if you are planning to mod it, don't expect people to spoon feed you information. Many things you asked are covered in the forum. Just try browsing through or use the search tool if you have trouble finding anything.
It's not that hard to become "car-savvy", you just need to read up on threads and diy. Hell, when i first got my car..i didn't know how to change my oil. Couple months later, I upgraded my anti-sway bar and did a rear-disc conversion.
Don't rely on mechanics to work on your car. When I was a nublet like you, I had a mechanic install my coilovers. Right when i left the garage, it started popping on every bump. Obviously, the installation went wrong..and after inspecting it, the mechanic didn't put in the washers in the strut tower. It's better if you do your own work and save some money in the end.
As for performance, you bought the wrong platform for acceleration. The DX model comes with an R-series motor (correct me if i'm wrong), similar to the D-series. With that being said, the only modification that would provide noticable gains would be turbo or a motor swap. Intake/Headers/Exhaust will give you only minimal gains if any at all, those kinds of mods are merely for sound.
As for flashiness, it your car. Don't let anyone tell you how to dress up your car. We will give you opinions and some may be harsh but that doesn't mean you have to listen to us.
Happy modding!
Re: Help with Upgrades
well the r18 has some okay FI options unlike the d17. you can get a s/c or turbo but the best engine upgrade is to do a kswap. like kyle said do suspension first then exterior. go to 8thgencivic.com for better help this site is mainly 7thgens
Re: Help with Upgrades
coils and rims and if u dont have fogs....get them. anything else cosmetic will be up to you (: performance.... like what they all said above. just make it the way u want it to be and save up and try not to piece things together...because they probably end up costing more in the long run. other than that...have fun with it =]
