I saw this on tv last week... I had a feeling these guys were kind of shady. Every time I go get my oil change by them, they'd always ask me to come to the bay and try and sell me stuff.

Scary thing is the investigation they did in Costa Mesa is the one I get my oil change at. As much as I'd love to do my own oil changes I don't have the time. So it looks like I'll either have to come up with some way to ensure they change the actual filter or just take it to Honda (right across the street from my apt.).

You can only imagine how many other shops besides jiffy & ez are doing this scam. Majority of car owners do not have the time to do these routine maintenance, so I guess it's now a hit or miss which shop you take your car to.

I always thought $20 bucks for an oil change was a ripp off, how would you know if they did change the oil or the filter, when waiting inside the office ??????? just my .02

dealers are bad too it can happen anywhere. always double check the work, even if it means bringing a different brand oil filter each time and checking the oil after they finish to make sure its new and not recycled from the last car.

^^^
yeah, i guess I may have to resort to that. Thing is, i figure at least dealerships aren't pressured into making quotas/car.

P.S. Where do you guys find oil changes for $20? The dealer charges around $25+ and those EZ lube places charge $24 (w/ $8 "VIP" discount card)

where?
mine used to charge $10.. then he went to $12, then $15 and now he charges $20. he always overfills it, i'd feel badd if i told him he's not doing his job right so thats why i started going to jiffy lube.

the weir canyon (anaheim) does an amazing job.. they wash the crap out of it and do the windows inside and out.. they even did the dash once for me... $28(or something i dont remember) and sooooo worth it

the best part though.. they put the lil sticker on after everything is done and they wear gloves.. so you can peel it off and theres no fingerprints to clean

eh, I don't have too much time ... but I make time.

takes me like an hour to do my oil change, including cleanup... but I usually am not rushing when I do mine and I let the oil drain for ~15 min or so.

handsonme: can't u get someone to do your oil changes for u ? ... saaaay ... yourinmyw0rld? ;P
