NBC 4: Investigative Report on EZ Lube
http://www.nbc4.tv/news/9897560/detail.html
I saw this on tv last week... I had a feeling these guys were kind of shady. Every time I go get my oil change by them, they'd always ask me to come to the bay and try and sell me stuff.
Scary thing is the investigation they did in Costa Mesa is the one I get my oil change at. As much as I'd love to do my own oil changes I don't have the time. So it looks like I'll either have to come up with some way to ensure they change the actual filter or just take it to Honda (right across the street from my apt.).

You can only imagine how many other shops besides jiffy & ez are doing this scam. Majority of car owners do not have the time to do these routine maintenance, so I guess it's now a hit or miss which shop you take your car to.

dealers are bad too it can happen anywhere. always double check the work, even if it means bringing a different brand oil filter each time and checking the oil after they finish to make sure its new and not recycled from the last car.

^^^
yeah, i guess I may have to resort to that. Thing is, i figure at least dealerships aren't pressured into making quotas/car.
P.S. Where do you guys find oil changes for $20? The dealer charges around $25+ and those EZ lube places charge $24 (w/ $8 "VIP" discount card)

i just go to the honda dealer 24 bucks i can check out cars watch tv on the big screen they have talk on phone done in like 30mins-hour depending on how busy it is and if you want you can get a car wash to for fre and they top off fluids

the weir canyon (anaheim) does an amazing job.. they wash the crap out of it and do the windows inside and out.. they even did the dash once for me... $28(or something i dont remember) and sooooo worth it
the best part though.. they put the lil sticker on after everything is done and they wear gloves.. so you can peel it off and theres no fingerprints to clean

lol, last time i went there, they had all these parts layed down on my car after the oil change and told me that i should replace each part with em... i'm never going there again
I just burnt my tongue

my question is if you dont have time to do it yourself...than how do u have time to take it to ez lube and have them do it?...it wont take u more time then it does them...i always change my own oil
eh, I don't have too much time ... but I make time.
takes me like an hour to do my oil change, including cleanup... but I usually am not rushing when I do mine and I let the oil drain for ~15 min or so.
handsonme: can't u get someone to do your oil changes for u ? ... saaaay ... yourinmyw0rld? ;P
