it doesnt have to be a condo. but if i get a apartment, i want a garage, thats why i was looking at townhomes and condos.... so if there are apartments with connected garages then im down for that!

This is what you need to do. Take a drive to the local libraries in the areas your interested in. I use to work at downey library and now work at Long Beach library and both get a newspaper that is dedicated to apartment, condos, and houses for rent. They give a basic picture of the place and a brief discription of what it offers. Also I would stick to north downey or east long beach / belmont shores if your going to look in those cities. Nice area where you will not have to worry about too much stuff. Also try Whittier.

^^ he knows that hes talking about. i live in northeast downey. anywhere else is kinda ghetto. put it like this, you wouldnt want to park your car outside at night. it really is like 2 different cities. but good luck with your search.
