is your windows XP shutting down on its own?
I know im not from Cali, but I saw this thread and I think you should all know, it aint Microsoft, its a virus called MSBlaster. Hit Ctrl ALt Delete and look for processes/programs runnign and you'll most likely see a program running called MSBlaster.exe although, i guess its under a few other names too now. Either way, its a b!tch.
Go here..........
Nasty A$$ virus
It hit the internet today big-time. I had it on my computer. I guess some ghey-*** ***** had too much time on his hands and wanted to make a big problem for lots and lots of people. Some loop-hole in the XP's auto-update feature or something. Either way, I followed the directions at that link and so far its workin, knock on wood.

anybody who hates windows xp just doesn't know how to correctly utilize it. It is so much better than 98 or even 2000 in so many ways. Just spend some time with it and you will see that it is better

i think the one thing that just bugged me about xp is how if you have 10 internet explorer open, they are all combined into 1 icon in the tool bar below. i like it to have 10 different ie windows not just 1 with a list.

Then you can change that by right clicking the start menu and going under properties and un-clicking the group same icons together button and it will no longer do that. Problem solved very easily

exactly... lol
BTW, I've been getting lots of calls about that too, and so has my instructor, it's weird, like the sheep-sucker of the computer world.

Win98SE = best for gaming... unrestricted performance (except it keeps running LOW in system resources...forcing you to restart every couple of hours and too many blue screens)
WinME = Failure. More bugs than the Amazon. You spend more time seeing blue screens than actual Windows
Win2k Pro/Adv Serv = The best. Built on WinNT's core engine. ROCK SOLID performance, but doesn't support all the hardware out there.
WinXP Home/Pro = Microsoft finally gets it right and implements WinNT core (just like Win2k) plus support for almost all hardware. Down-side... not as stable as win2k because it's too user friendly and not all xp drivers are truly compatible.
I recommend Win2k Pro to anybody (even home users). I've been using it for 2-3 years and only got the blue screen of death like twice. I've gone 21 days without a single restart on my home pc...not idle, playing games and stuff. A+ for stability!
I got carried away, lol.

Best OS? DOS=Windows 98 NT=Windows XP
I say if you got XP you should have proffessional, way more stable, if you got 95, you need to upgrade to 98, now!
Win2k is a NOS. More for big companies that are on a network cuz it's so good at that.
XP is best of both worlds, eventhough it is an NT platform, it's still has Plug N Play, is easy to use and really customizable.
ME isn't even recognized by Microsoft anymore, try calling them for trubleshooting, you'll never get anyone.
