Civic EX vs. Jeep Grand Cherokee
I'm not exactly sure which Jeep Grand Cherokee I raced, but I'm going to assume it was a 1999 model.
Here's the stats:
Me:
2002 Civic EX Sedan
Transmission: Auto
Hp: 131.6 (yeah FIPK!) @ 6300 rpm
Tq: 114 (plus whatever FIPK gives you) @ 4800 rpm
Weight: 2564
Passengers: Me + 105lb girl.
Him:
1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Transmission: Auto
Hp: 195 @ 4600 rpm
Tq: 230 @ 2200 rpm
Weight: 3960lbs
Passengers: Just him.
So my friend pulled up next to me at a light and we were talking for few seconds. I said "When the light changes, let's go for it." Haha. He's all like "ok." Now, keep in mind we were on a 30mph road, so we both stopped at around 40mph.
As I saw the light on the intersecting road change to yellow, I began powerbraking to about 2500rpm. I waited until the light was about to change because I didn't want to hold the powerbrake for too long. I also figured that this would give me an advantage over him because he probably didn't know anything about powerbraking.
Off the line I had him. As my first gear ended around 34mph, I noticed he started pulling on me. This would possibly make sense as his first gear probably ended before mine and so his rpms were lower at this point and he was making more torque, but I don't really know how all that stuff works.
Around 40 mph when we shut down, he was actually a bumper ahead of me. I was like "what the hell? I would have assumed he would have killed me off the line since he makes way more torque than me at way lower rpms.
I wish the speed limit was higher so we could have taken it longer, because I would like to see how I did through second gear. I assume as he is running out of rpms in 2nd I would just be hitting my power band.
Or, maybe a Jeep Grand Cherokee would totally kill a Civic, but he didn't start by pushing the pedal all the way down, and then when he saw I was in the lead he gunned it, hence his pulling ahead at around 40mph. I dunno.
I blame it on me having a passenger
I dunno.

Going by hp at the crank, you can assume about 140hp with that FIPK. Now let's say your car weighs 2670 w/passenger... that's 19.1. Whereas the Jeep is working at 20.3 so you should (on paper) win.

Wait.
All it did was say it adds 4.6hp. Is that at the crank or at the wheels?
A best case scenario would be at the wheels, because that means it adds MORE at the crank. If it adds 4.6 at the crank, that would be less at the wheels.
Either way, if I'm making 127 at the crank stock, and I have an FIPK, it should be a minimum of 131.6hp at the crank.
If the 4.6 was at the wheels, then my 107 or whatever stock whp would be bumped up to 111.6.
Which do you think it is?

the driver of the jeep obviously didnt kno what he was doing. cuz last summer i saw a race between a jeep gran cherokee and a '97 firebird. the jeep spanked the bird through n through except off the line. the bird was up ahead for the first few secs off line then it was jeep all the way.
What is this FIPK everyone's talking about? I'm doubting that it boosts 127crank hp to 131whp...but oh well. I raced a Jeep Grand Cherokee once and beat the **** out of him, it was hard to call it a race.

ya my friends V8 cherokee with dual flowmaster exhaust slapped my bitch *** around when i had my prelude. took me off the line (we were at a light, on a slight uphill slope) and contiued to pull on me until 3rd gear. i was able to catch up slightly before we both slowed down. needless to say, your car would have been spanked if that kid really wanted to beat you.

ooo come on I took a 80's something toyota truck off the line, a 98 Mirage off the line, a mustang gt off the line, and all i did was power brake a lil bit. I time the stop lights just right. I just mess with people. I rev my lil 4 banger auto 94 lx sedan. Usually the other person wont look at me so I just sit back and take off normal and the other car takes off.

haha considering i dont own a little civic... face it girl your car isnt fast. Powerbraking or not there is no way unless the driver of the jeep was a total moron that he could keep up off the line.

1. RSX's are slooooooooooooooow, all they did was make 7thgens look better. if you can afford to swap in a k20 good for you; you have quick 7thgen civic.
2. your 94 auto lx dident beat a mustang gt off the line that was racing

One Day I Was Sitting At A Light And I Just Put my car into neutral to mess around b/c it was a long light and i was bored so some guy pulls up next to me in a Grand Cherokee V-8 And He Was All Looking And Looking So I Was LIke Ok I Started to powerbrake my car to launch it b/c its a damn auto and the guy punches it off the line and i had him for a little bit then he just Smoked me And my friend has an accord with intake and exhaust and a VAFC in it and he got smoked by a Grand Cherokee v-8
Sorry to tell most people this, but VAFC is a waste of money to people who dont have highly modified engines, messin with your Vtec timing wont cut a damn time off your 1/4, might hurt you if you dont know what your doin...also most people think yeah VAFC will help me b.c. I have VTEC etc...blah blah blah Ive never heard of anyone cuttin noticeable times off with jus a VAFC I/H and Exhaust but besides the point Jeep woulda spanked Civic and accord sorry guys
