A 93 Toyota Paseo beat me!!! WTF!!!
Damn mann!! Im so pissed!!! Some guy at my work has a 93 toyota paseo and he said he wanted to race me, so told him to bring it on!!! So after work we both went to a straight away and he burned me by 7 car lengths and couldnt catch up wit him and lost. Its a good thing we never had a bet though. He had a stick and I had auto. But im guessing that the Toyota Paseo had lower than 100 hp and I have 115. But anyways I think my car is too slow!! It seems I cant beat anyone at my work!!

Even with your auto, something smells fishy about that one. 7 car lengths? Seriously, a Paseo is like an 18flat second car in the 1/4 mile. Something's up, if you lost.....
That doesn't sound correct at all. I have beaten like 2 of those in my EX Auto Sedan. Maybe you just... well wait... damn I dunno. But that does suck.

I'm sorry man. I'm guessing either he was spraying or you need to be spraying. It's alright...somehow I lost to a DOHC Saturn. Bad launch, 200+ lb passenger and he wasn't pulling after the initial lead...but I still lost to a Saturn

Uhhhhhhhh, perhaps not Nitrous. Paseo's are significantly lighter than civics, and they respond a LOT better to bolt on modifications than the civics do also. He could have had a performance clutch kit and race tuned gear box. 15hp is literally nothing when working numbers. Also consider that there are less parasitic losses thru a manual transmission than an automatic. 7 entire car lengths seems like an lot though, but with a well maintained engine it would be a very fair race between the two. Same way an automatic 7th gen civic stands no chance to a manual one with an experienced driver.

I've raced a Paseo before. I have an EX with AEM CAI. This guy with his Paseo has intake, headers, and a full exhaust. I beat him by 2 maybe 3 car lengths. It goes to the statement that it's not always the car, but it could be the driver. If you really lost to a Paseo, you shouldn't be racing.

he probably swapped in a 4agze. 160hp 1.8L engine which is easily modifiable to 190HP N/A.
The unloved toyotta engine from the corolla GT-S's FWD and MR2's, AE86's (rwd) Great bulletproof engines.

Paseo's in north america are infact slow, but not that slow. An automatic DX usually should have trouble keeping up, maybe not losing by 7 car lenghts, but still. I find civics and almost all economy type sports coupe lose a lot of time on and off the track from automatic transmissions. I just sold my 5spd Cavalier Z-22 that's a 115hp 2.2l, i raced my friend in a 6th gen civic DX, automatic, and it took him so much time to get off the line, it's not even worth describing how bad it was, but on the other hand, at about 100km/h+ he kept up quite well. Now, back to the subjects, contrary to the US model, its Japan counterpart, (of the paseo) has or had, engines that produced about 160hp stock, and 175hp with light modifications...it's still a Toyota after all.
I'm pretty sure something in here answers your question to why you lost.
I would not waste my time with an automatic civic racing. Unless you have some serious mods under there.
Back when I had my cavalier i raced a hatchback 6th gen civic, off the light the guy was about 10-15 cars ahead of me. Now, i had 4 people in my back, plus myself, I wasn't willing to endanger others for the sakes of a good race, but i plain and simple got killed, i can't tell you if he was shooting nitrous from the begining of second gear which is when he started going bazerks on me, or maybe he was running a spoon. I don't know, i wasnt fast enough to catch up and ask. My 5spd Civic Si (which is the canadian model for civic EX) hasnt been delivered yet, another 4-5 days. I hope i like it.
