A 93 Toyota Paseo beat me!!! WTF!!!

Damn mann!! Im so pissed!!! Some guy at my work has a 93 toyota paseo and he said he wanted to race me, so told him to bring it on!!! So after work we both went to a straight away and he burned me by 7 car lengths and couldnt catch up wit him and lost. Its a good thing we never had a bet though. He had a stick and I had auto. But im guessing that the Toyota Paseo had lower than 100 hp and I have 115. But anyways I think my car is too slow!! It seems I cant beat anyone at my work!!. This sucks!!

S2000man01 02-06-2003 12:51 AM

Even with your auto, something smells fishy about that one. 7 car lengths? Seriously, a Paseo is like an 18flat second car in the 1/4 mile. Something's up, if you lost.....

spike 02-06-2003 08:30 AM

Well it is a Civic.

n00dleboy 02-06-2003 08:55 AM

Either he could launch really really well and shift really really fast, or you're too short to floor the pedal.. OR his car is a sleeper.

renagadecivic 02-06-2003 09:57 AM

hmmm must have some vicious engin mods in that paseo:susp:

VtecDude 02-06-2003 01:09 PM

:susp:

That doesn't sound correct at all. I have beaten like 2 of those in my EX Auto Sedan. Maybe you just... well wait... damn I dunno. But that does suck.

iluvbritney 02-06-2003 01:41 PM

who said civic is slow? i got an ex auto coupe, i ran 14.8 on the track :tup: well thats b/c i got kool parts installed....kool parts LOL

but anyway, i still think u should of raped him. u prolly diddn't yank at the gas pedal...maybe ur new at this, when u race against someone, no matter its a geo metro or supra, u give it all u got....and never underestimate the person ur racing cause u never know wats under his hood...

2k2civicRAY 02-06-2003 03:09 PM

You must not have put it all the way to the floor or something. Or either he could have been spraying. Something is fishy about this one.

01SOHCcivic 02-06-2003 03:15 PM

One word: NOS

That can't be possible 7 car lengths??? Thats a FARRRR ways

2000SiRacer 02-06-2003 04:23 PM

I'm sorry man. I'm guessing either he was spraying or you need to be spraying. It's alright...somehow I lost to a DOHC Saturn. Bad launch, 200+ lb passenger and he wasn't pulling after the initial lead...but I still lost to a Saturn

OmegaBlue2k1 02-06-2003 06:06 PM

Uhhhhhhhh, perhaps not Nitrous. Paseo's are significantly lighter than civics, and they respond a LOT better to bolt on modifications than the civics do also. He could have had a performance clutch kit and race tuned gear box. 15hp is literally nothing when working numbers. Also consider that there are less parasitic losses thru a manual transmission than an automatic. 7 entire car lengths seems like an lot though, but with a well maintained engine it would be a very fair race between the two. Same way an automatic 7th gen civic stands no chance to a manual one with an experienced driver.

dru106 02-06-2003 07:06 PM

You guys think it could be my TCS with custom crush piping? Or could it be cuz I removed my stock resonator? Rims? BTW I only have 7k miles on it.

15 hp isn't gonna make up an entire second in the 1/4 mile. the paseo is an 18 second car, and his civic is 17 seconds on a crappy day.

exactly what i was gonna say..........

ask him what kind of mods he has.....

HeartSoul 02-07-2003 03:13 AM

ive seen a few 18 second DX's, LX's, and EX's....these 7thgens arent as fast as u would think...very possible kill..but think he exaggerated on how many cars he got killed by.

R3DF0G 02-07-2003 10:58 AM

18 seconds? I've never run higher than 17.4, not even stock...............I ran 16.4 with intake(LX, btw) Well, I guess if it was an auto LX or something.......:_doh:

BooHa 02-09-2003 02:54 AM

I've raced a Paseo before. I have an EX with AEM CAI. This guy with his Paseo has intake, headers, and a full exhaust. I beat him by 2 maybe 3 car lengths. It goes to the statement that it's not always the car, but it could be the driver. If you really lost to a Paseo, you shouldn't be racing.

mohawkboom 02-09-2003 07:38 AM

he probably swapped in a 4agze. 160hp 1.8L engine which is easily modifiable to 190HP N/A.

The unloved toyotta engine from the corolla GT-S's FWD and MR2's, AE86's (rwd) Great bulletproof engines.

You really shouldn't post stories about getting beat by a Toyota Paseo...

True, but at least he didn't lie about it like 50% of the people who post on here...

iluvbritney 02-10-2003 06:13 PM

dont know wat to tell ya man

Sesso 02-14-2003 12:18 AM

Paseo's in north america are infact slow, but not that slow. An automatic DX usually should have trouble keeping up, maybe not losing by 7 car lenghts, but still. I find civics and almost all economy type sports coupe lose a lot of time on and off the track from automatic transmissions. I just sold my 5spd Cavalier Z-22 that's a 115hp 2.2l, i raced my friend in a 6th gen civic DX, automatic, and it took him so much time to get off the line, it's not even worth describing how bad it was, but on the other hand, at about 100km/h+ he kept up quite well. Now, back to the subjects, contrary to the US model, its Japan counterpart, (of the paseo) has or had, engines that produced about 160hp stock, and 175hp with light modifications...it's still a Toyota after all.
I'm pretty sure something in here answers your question to why you lost.
I would not waste my time with an automatic civic racing. Unless you have some serious mods under there.
Back when I had my cavalier i raced a hatchback 6th gen civic, off the light the guy was about 10-15 cars ahead of me. Now, i had 4 people in my back, plus myself, I wasn't willing to endanger others for the sakes of a good race, but i plain and simple got killed, i can't tell you if he was shooting nitrous from the begining of second gear which is when he started going bazerks on me, or maybe he was running a spoon. I don't know, i wasnt fast enough to catch up and ask. My 5spd Civic Si (which is the canadian model for civic EX) hasnt been delivered yet, another 4-5 days. I hope i like it.
