My Z vs. friends '97 Talon ESi

Out thursday night, went thru the industrial park by my house to have some fun. I turn right at a stop sign onto a strip thats between 1/8 and 1/4 mile, flat and straight to a stop sign at the other end. I pull over to the left and let him roll up on my right. I have my other friend with me in my car, my friend has his girl with him. Were all aggreed to go ahead, no one wants to get out. (just to be sure they are ok with us racing in this **** weather)

I ask him jokingly how many car lengths he wants until i start. He says it dont matter so we aggreed he can have the launch and when he starts ill go. I have no clue when hes going to start so i just wait on it.

At first i think OOPS, my car was still in neutral (I have to shift to drive and then over into the manual mode) so i get it over to the shiftronic gate and then realize yet another thing i forgot, I had left my TCS control ON. No time to turn it off when he starts to rev and dumps the clutch. He spins his tires and i get on the gas. Obviously my car lauches, tires realize its cold and wet and break loose triggering my TCS for the first of many times during the short race.

TCS turns off and my car lunges forward to catch up with him, then TCS kicks on again! Were now side by side and hes going to take his first shift. He gets to 2nd and is now running side by side with me as im nearing red (TCS still turning on and off due to the cold, wet pavement), I push my shifter to the + gate and my car swaps over to 2nd gear and needless to say, TCS kicks in again. It disengages and i just rocket again, this time pulling an easy 1 - 2 car lengths on him until my TCS turns on AGAIN. He takes another shift, and it seems to help him from falling behind until i hit the shift to third and rocket yet another couple cars ahead of him before shutting down and starting to brake to stop by the intersection.

I do have to admit that his car was holding pretty well against me but considering the factors that were "against" my car it was somewhat expected. He had all season perfomance tires, i had potenza re-040 dry weather performace tires (complete **** in snow BTW), His tires were also significantly narrower than mine. He wasnt stock either, full CAI intake, headers, catback exhaust system, race tuned suspension. He definitely had the advantage as far as road conditions went.

I was very happy with how well the vehicle did at deterring me from racing in unstable conditions though, Reminded me of the nagging girlfriend constantly reminding you of something your not supposed to be doing. Next time TCS is goin off and ill drive by the feel, easing back when the tires slip rather than letting my engine basically shut down on me.

Oh and BTW, this is the same talon that Greg "MugenRacerX" raced last summer out here and took by about tail to nose at the appx. 1/4 mile. I still think that it would have been a much more interesting race had it not been at like 2:30 in the morning when everyone was dead tired.....
