On vacation in San Diego... me Vs. the two Pontiac Firebirds.

I'm in San Diego right now on vacation for my friend's party that stretched out for two days, filled with wrestling, booze and some drunk *** ****s. But nothing more to worry about, everyone's alive and well... and still drinking.

As I left Oakland on 580-E just starting my cruise to SO Cali, as I'm in the huge East Oakland area there's a dark green Firebird getting on the freeway with a very loud noticable *dual* exhaust revving his engine and making his way next to me. I find this interesting and at this point, I know nothing about the Firebird. I throw a rev at him (in 5th gear... heh, thanks to the intake) and as he is already ahead of me, he downshifts and I follow, not losing much ground from him. He decides to change through lanes at speeds over 100 through the twisty freeway and I'm capable of keeping him in check. He slows down a bit due to some traffic ahead and I'm still behind him. When we find an opening (going 90-95 now) he downshifts again, and I proceed to downshift to 4th... and here's the funny thing... at 100MPH he downshifts AGAIN! I'm like "holy ****!" This guy leaves me behind quickly and I LIKE IT! At that moment, I was wondering if I could downshift again... but at 100, there'd be fire shooting out my exhaust in 3rd gear.

My drive to SD was safe. A bit foggy in the process and I hit LA traffic which was like hitting a storm. Second time driving through there and my car attracts attention. For some reason this white 6th gen coupe liked getting on my *** for some reason... in traffic. Well, back to the second Firebird.

On the second day of being in San Diego me and my friend decide to hit up El Cajon because this was where he was gonna have his party at. We waited for his friends and my friend brought to my attention that there was a Firebird here and if I wanted to race it... I declined... I already knew what to expect.

Later that evening the Firebird used it's headlights as stage lights for the wrestling matches. When it was all over, I got to talk to the owner and help him jump his car (he also taught me how to do it). In the meantime I examined his car and I noticed this Firebird was not the one that whipped me on the freeway... where's the dual exhaust? Something was different, and I assumed that this one was slower - I asked the guy if he wanted to race and he gladly accepted. He told me all he did was put a K&N drop in air filter in there which boosted his power to around 220HP and 230lbs of torque as he told me and everyone else. Oh, and by the way, his car is an automatic.

220HP Vs. 130HP
230lbs Vs. 115lbs

(Ah, my #s are just estimates since I'm running an intake.)

He took me to a deserted area and we lined up. We had two races. He told me to give the count to three and I did... he launched before me (on my own count ). 1st gear he was plenty ahead... 2nd, there was no gain... 3rd gear I started to gain but not enough to catch up. He beat me by a car length and a half. In the end, he was impressed with how well I kept up. I asked to race one more time and he said sure.

Back to the starting line, I gave the count to three. I started with a MUCH better launch, timing wise and I was able to launch smoothly if not perfectly at higher RPMs than before. At the beginning of 1st we were even though I had the edge at first, his car started to pull on me. 2nd gear we were neck and neck (was worried cuz I spun 2nd), and by the end of 2nd to 3rd, that's where I pulled on him enough to move ahead of him enough to beat him by a leg's length. In the end, he was glad. I needed gas and he lead me to a gas station. We chatted for a bit and just saw a cop coming up the road we raced on... our timing was impeccable. Afterwards he left and said he's down to race me anytime I'm around. After I gave my tank $5, I left... and can say at least I beat 1 Firebird.

I wanted to meet some SD peeps from the website but I couldn't make my notice of this any shorter unfortunately. I don't see as many 7th gens here period compared to where I live but I met one guy from the West Coast meet who lives down here. Anyways, I'll be here for a few more days and if anyone is down to meet, E-mail me. Personally I love this place (don't wanna leave ) and if anywhere I'd like to meet more peeps here. I think I'll be here until the 22nd or so.

There's my story... goodnight.

Nice stories. I used to own a Trans Am, so let me clear up some of the mystery behind these stories.

1. The first car you raced was a Trans Am 5.7L V8. It comes with dual exhaust and there is no chance that our cars would come close to beating it. If it was a T/A then it should of had honeycomb taillights(black lines in the tails. A regular Firebird would just have plain red tails)

2. The second guy you raced is full of $hit. His car was a plain V6 3.8L which produces 200hp at the flywheel. This is probably something like 180 hp at the wheels. There is no way his air filter gave him 40hp at the wheels. He obviously was either trying to scare you are doesn't know anything about cars.

Very nice kill. Isn't it so rewarding to toast someone who talks big about their car, yet they really don't know jack squat about it?

Downing twice at 100? Well, I suppose if we had 6 speeds and slightly wider gears, we could probably do it too. But sweeeeeeeet and nice kill!

Yeah, I did a lil' basic research on the Firebird. The first one was nice... I liked it's exhaust note, too. (For a domestic.)

Oh, and I guess I should've made it clearer, the guy said he gained 20HP and 30lbs of torque, so I guess he was talking about the crank. He also said his car doesn't go past 120mph due to the governor. Heh, guess my car IS faster.

haha El Cajon is like where I live. haha. Do you remember the area where you and this guy raced? Did you happen to go by the mall? You can find some "ricers" there. Plus if you are driving on Broadway which is the street in front of the mall, you will run into some of them there as well. OH ya just watch out for the police station right on the corner across from the mall. If you like to bowl, there is a bowling all down the street from the mall called Parkway bowl. In that parking lot, Ricers hangout there usually. Usually its around 10 or 11 at night. Oh ya another thing, there are alot of Lifted trucks and stuff like that in El Cajon. last week, me and my friend were walking around asking people if they saw our Black lifted Ranger with Skin stickers on it. The only 7th gen that i know that lives in el cajon is ImmortalEx. I know StreetTurbo lives up in Rancho Penasquitos which is close to Del Mar or something.

Haha. Well, I have an "El Cajon story" for you guys. This isn't car related.

I was outside of my friend's house just checking the fluids under the hood of my car and this Hispanic chick comes up to me in a car and says "Excuse me, do you know who Cynthia is?" I'm like, "No." I guess she didn't hear me the first time because she asked me again and she got the same answer. Then this hispanic guy comes out the car. He is ripped, bald, without a shirt and stands at about 6'4'" 6'5"... he approaches me. He asked me again, "Do you know Cynthia?" I'm like no. Then he asked me if I could direct him and his girl somewhere and I'm like, "No, I'm not from around here." He asks me where I'm from and I tell him, "Oakland." Then he asks, "Are you single?" I'm like, ".... ? ... uh... yeah?" He stalls replying and says "Alright." He starts to walk away and says "Nice car, plan on selling it?" I told him not for a long time and they drove off.

I know I live in the ghetto as well but El Cajon's ghetto... ? You guys got some weird mofoz.

About the place I raced at.... ah, it was directly off of the 8, to another freeway junction (67, 63 or somethin? I don't remember, I'd have to ask my friend, plus I ain't there no more.) This place was right next to some hills but the road lead straight up to a highway. It's just a narrow 2-lane street that curves once or twice before meeting a couple of stoplights before entering the freeway. There's a 76 gas station visible from the road that we went to afterwards. No one else was there racing except us at that time.

When I first met the guy with the Firebird, he had a friend with him driving the car - he didn't think I could beat it. His words were, "Unless it's got some JDM conversion, maybe it'll have a chance."

Almost stock ownz jOO!
