Driving at 100mph
I meant to post this a while ago but I never got around to it.
A while ago I was driving on the highway with 4 friends in the car. There was an open stretch with no other cars around so I decided to take my Civic up to 100 for the first time. I was already going 75-80 so I figured it wouldn't be that much more. Ok, so I floored it and the needle slowly crept up. This was made worse by the fact that my four friends weigh an estimated 620lbs (3 guys and a girl; 180, 170, 160, 110 respectively) plus my 170, so that's a bit of extra weight.
As the needle reached 100, it seemed to not want to past that point. I just wanted to get to 101 so I could say I'd passed 100. Anyway, it seems like as it got to 100 it took about 3-5 seconds before it would get past that point. I have an automatic transmission and it wouldn't shift into the next gear, either. I was like, what the hell is going on?
I remember why I decided to write this now. In another thread someone mentioned that it seems like their car has a governor at 100mph. That reminded me of this trip. Oh yeah.
So it FINALLY passed 100 and then I slowed back down to 80 or so.
As a side note, on the way home I was going 80-90 for most of the way and I just wanted to mention that I was very impressed with how my car handled at this speed. The ride was very smooth, and the steering was very responsive (as is to be expected at such high speeds). I didn't have my K&N intake at this point so the engine sound was just normal, but it wasn't annoying or anything at all.
I'll probably try it again when the opportunity presents itself and I'm by myself so I'm not carrying over 600 extra pounds.
I give Honda
for how well my car handled at 80-90 on the way back.
Note: I made sure the highway was empty before I did this. Please exercise caution at all times when driving, and especially when driving fast. And I told everyone in the car what I was going to do before I did it, so they knew and were ok with it. Be careful when you have passengers in your car.

Well, when you're going fast obviously you wouldn't turn the wheel too hard. I wonder what the turning radius is at 100mph...
Or maybe I just thought it handled well because my old car, an 88 Corsica, started to shake around 60-65. It was old, but in good condition given it's age.

Straight-a-ways are my achilles heel (Or any open road for that matter). as soon as I see the opportunity, rip it real good. I don't think flooring the pedal is good thought. I mostly just push the pedal with little force gradually until I break 80-90 or so. When you punch the pedall all the way, the car seems like it's being chooked. It's like it's trying to go from 1st gear to 4th, just like that.

It was probably just all the weight in the car. Heck, I can tell my car is slower with my wife in the car. I wouldn't even dream about racing a school bus with that many people in the car. Our c
Mine has no problem getting past 100 on the interstate. I mean it's not like it flies but it moves pretty steadily...
Get ready to catch some hay for driving fast and driving fast with other people in the car.

All this talk, I'm heading out to run 115. I used to drive a one of a kind rice-R-tercel.
About 60 mph the passenger had to help control the wheel. I've got a long staight stretch near home too, my 4 door EX handles real well from 85 - 105. It just lugs after that. But it'll get to 125. <which is still TOO SLOW>
I need to get more mods than just an exhaust.
What'll make my top end better.
What do I need to get rid of the limiter ! , although the limitor isn't that bad because i don't think it'll more than 130.

Why worry about how fast your car tops out at? (If you drive the autobahn, forget this sentence.) I'd be more concerned how fast I could reach 60-100-120MPH or whatever than care about how fast the car can go. It takes long enough for the car to even reach 120.
And if you want to kill the speed limiter, or change the rev limiter upgrade your ECU.
But then again, if you're going 130, your car obviously has no limiter (meaning it's not a DX or an LX). An EX has no speed limiter. It'll go as fast as it can go. People have made it up to 140 in an EX from what I've seen... and yes, I've actually seen it.
I didn't say i was runnin 130.
But props to whoever's EX you where in or have seen doing 140.
+ I don't run autobahn, but I need to go fast.
I'm sure from 60-100 is important. I mean, i know it is.
But Anything that'll help after 120 is what i want.
"for some its the 0-100, for me its the 100 - .... "

I've gotten my EX Sedan up to 130 at about 5.4-5.5 rpm. I know it can go faster it just wont!? The tach seems to totally stop at 5500 rpm.

My EX is limited. I can't hit the limiter in OD, but I can hit it in 2nd and 3rd. It starts cutting out when it hits redline.

They were referring to speed limiters not rev limiters. DX/LX's are SPEED limited and REV limited. EX's are only rev limited (i believe at 7100, i think that's where mine stops, at redline though its usually because im spinning or something, i never intentionally redline and stare at the needle to see how high it goes)
