prelude vs. talon

hey whats up guys, as some of you might know, i dnt have a civic, but a 1998 honda prelude. A friend of mine with a 1997 talon tsi awd turbo wants to race.........his is an auto stock and mine is a 5 speed and i have a cai, spark plug wires, plugs, and msd ignition......from a dead start up to about the length of a 1/4 mile who do you think would win? I am a pretty good driver at stick, i just dont know any of the statistics on the talon.. any input would be appreciated. by the way i just have the base model vtec, not the SH.

Any prelude after '97 with the newer body style are slow as hell.

Talon even if it is auto.

Are you crazy?????....low 15's in the 1/4 I wouldn't exactly consider slow......

The newer preludes are the fastest yet.

And yea, the Talon prob. has you.......I believe high 14's.......

Good luck though

What older gens are you refering to ???......
because the square 87-91.....the SI's....they have the 2.0, our civic's can barely beat those.
The 92??- 95 are slower than the 2.0SI's (older ones)......
and then there is the newer body style...97+
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe they take the gold

oh yeah.... and my money is on the lude. the old stock talons were low/mid 15 second cars.

and he's got a stick modded lude.... he'll get you on the launch, but if you can shift faster than a monkey, then you'll take him in the long run.

my buddy has a 97 gsx eclipse, which is the same thing. granted my friends is a 5 speed, that think would murder a prelude, my uncle let my take out an SH for a while. SH is fast but the GSX spanks soo many cars. Now, being an auto, its a damn close race, if your car's in good shape then I think you may have him (gear advantage with more power to the ground)

Okay... we're talking about 2 low 15 second cars REGARDLESS of AWD or FWD. They both run essentially the same 1/4 mile stock, except one of these cars is modded... the prelude. And if captain spanky isn't willing to do a full out AWD launch (or doesn't know how), he loses his advantage, and his car is now a high 15 second car at best.

Money is on the lude... if he can shift better than a monkey.

well gentleman, s2000man was right, i won!.....we went to a place around here thats pretty deserted area, a little over a quarter mile.....i got a great launch while mr auto was over there brake tourqueing. (sp)......and i took him off the line, he caught up a little bit when i shifted into 2nd and through 2nd we were pretty much neck and neck, i shifted to third and started to pull on him, slowly, but surely i started to gain a car on him, by the time we shut it down at 115 mph, i was a little over a car length ahead of him....we did a second run and it turned out the same way, about 115 and a car and a half.....he was a good guy about it though, fun experience! i am absolutely amazed that you got him off the line.... he is a really shitty driver than cuz AWD shouldve owned you... as for the top end im not surprised because the stock T-25 falls below 12 psi when it gets up to like 6500 rpms. good job on the kill though

I'm not too sure how well an AUTOMATIC AWD talon is going to be able to launch.

There are some mustangs with 5.0 engines that were no better than 15 second cars... not all of them were quick. Throw in the fact that someone may or may not be able to drive theirs. And don't forget, your buddies stock Tsi is probably a low 15 second car at best.

And by the way, the race already happened, as stated in a previous post. The Prelude beat the talon.
