last night we were racing from a dead stop to third gear and it was me in my 05 vp with a 100 pound sub box in the trunk and a stock engine versus a red 02 rsx (non s) with intake and a 40 pound sub and the first run i spun tires in the beginning and lost by half a car length so we lined up again and i got a little better launch, still spinning my small *** tires, but once i shifted into second i just walked on him its weird. I thought for sure i had no chance...

Awsome,
Normally RSX's take our vics pretty easy...

yeah maybe the type s'
this one could have been lacking because of its 18" rims but thats no excuse for a rsx with a weight and hp advantage. definitely the most surprising kill for me

you guys try switching cars and see if you got the same result? You might just be a better driver then him...

Even the base has a better to hp to weight ratio and has more performance gearing. The VP is geared to get more economy.

I bet if you guys switched cars, you would beat him by a couple car lengths.

yeah, I think in this case you might be the better driver. even auto RSX should win against a stock 5 speed D17A1.

yeah, especially in such a short race (1st-2nd-3rd Gear) its probably all in the launch even though it seemed like i was spinning tires alot more than him. My stock tires are like 175/65/14

175?? whoa, thats pretty small! no offense, but 1-2-3 in a RSX and Civic is a pretty long race IMO. From my experience, going from the start of 3rd gear (shifted at redline 2nd gear) to the top of 3rd took an eternity.

^ I agree... don't you really only use 3 gears in the 1/4?

depends on the vehicle. if your quick you should make it into 4th. i had to hit 4th in my s10. but it was usually right around the finish line. but of course that is a 3200lb truck with me in it making less than 100whp with a manual tranny with 3:73 gears. now if you used 4:10 gearing you would definately be in 4th. so it all depends on the gearing

off topic but, I'm surprised there arent more replies. I posted a thread a while back asking if I had a chance against a bud's 05 RSX auto fully loaded against my 5 speed LX with some mods.... of course, 95% of the folks said I had pretty much no chance. WHat gives?!

yeah its a very surprising kill thats why i posted it up. if you dont believe me then fine but i wouldnt make this up just to be "fast" because i damn well know that my car is slow. its a very weird race though because it was close, not even 1/2 a car length but i won by the same amount every time. I'm thinking driver skill, but i was spinning tires alot more than the rsx, according to the spectators, so what gives? Oh yeah and the race wasnt to the top of 3rd, it was till a certain distance which usually ended up being in 3rd for 2-3 seconds.

Yeah you won because your a better driver. When i had every bolt on possible i beat a base rsx but it was like by a fender. Its not impossible but hard especially stock

no the difference between a Type S and a Non-Type-S is roughly 40hp

i also did neck n neck with my friend's rsx base auto from 1-2-3 gear...
for the most of the time it was bumper distance...
although i had 215-45/17 and he had stock wheels...
in 1-2 gear i was ahead by a bumper.....in 3 gear i was behind....Perfect shift...
we both have heavy subs 2 people in each car....
my wheel alone is 23 lbs not including tires....

unlike our civics, the pricetag is alot bigger haha. i still think its funny that a sporty coupe is barely faster than a economy driver
