Almost Got Rolled

i was driving around last night kinda hunting. i pretty much always hunt when i am driving solo at night. well i cam to a light and noticed a set of blue light behind me and saw the shape of them was a 6th gen civic. so i rolled through the intersection kinda slow until i got through the gutter dip and gave it a little gas so he could hear my exhaust. well there wasnt a opening beause both lanes had cars in front well 1 car pulled into another turn lane and i got over and so did he. but i didnt want to do a highspeed race down this street because it was a 40 zone. so i kept it around 55mph and to my surprise so did the montero next to me. well i finally gained enough ground on him so the guy behind me which turned out to be a 96-00 coupe ex got infront of the montero and i thought "its on" well so did he and he began to increase his speed to proba round 60-65mph. well i knew what we were going to do but we were approaching another ligh that dead ended into a neighborhood so i kinda layed back to see which way he was going when all of the sudden i see berries in a parking lot about 50yards ahead on the left and thought oh great im getting a ticket. well the coupe was going a bit faster than i because he had to pass the montero to get next to me. well the popo must have noticed him passing me and the montero and decided he was going faster because i got into the left lane trying to avoid the ticket and he went for the coupe and pulled him. i then took out like a bat out of hell the other way thanking god it wasnt me but kinda feeling bad because i knew what we were going to do. but so he did right and he was setting himself up for the same thing as i and he ended up taking the ticket. i am thankful but also feel bad for the guy in the coupe but hey he makes his own decisions too right!!!!

I wouldn't feel bad. Like you said, he made his own decision to speed and he paid the consequences.

i totally agree that is why i dont go out cruising solo much. it was just a run to get some dinner while my wife put the baby to sleep. i know my area pretty well too so i kinda know where and when i can get away with a quick run. and i never do any high speed runs its usually only a quick light to light not exceeding 60-65mph. so realistically if i wanted to fight that ticket it could be done because i am not exceeding max speed limit set by cali laws.

i used to go to ontario street races years agon when import was just getting big. i actually got popped there for being a spectator when i was 15yrs old. the shut down the track from both ends and busted over 300 cars that night. my friends mx6 turbo got impounded and we had to call our parents at 3am. my pops told them to keep me that he would pick me up in the morning so i had to have a over age friend come get me befoer he did so i didnt get my **** whooped. so i have been there and i do make sure i cover my **** as much as possible. but in all reality i know i shouldnt do it even though i make sure things are safe to do it, its still no excuse for god sakes that was 11yrs ago now!

A lot of people don't understand that they can even be cited for going the speed limit. The speed limit is the maximum speed at which you can drive under GOOD conditions. For example, you can be cited for going 65mph on the freeway if there's heavy fog or rain which makes the road conditions unsafe. You can also be cited for exhibition of speed if you lose traction off the line when the light turns green. Just be careful, they have more than one way to write you up if they want to.

you can not be cited for exhinition oof speed for spinning your tires off the line. only if they see fit that you are engaging in a race and are exceeding the speed llimit. you can also play it the opposite way and the posted speed limit is 40 but the cal. max speed limit is 65mph. so if conditions are clear and no traffic usually the officer will let you have a 12mph grace limit. a good friend of mine is a CHP. if conditions it is at the drivers discretion as long as it is safe to the public. if the driving is irratic then of course. if you going 65 and you can barely see in front of you because of fog or rain then your dumb anyway.
but im not trying to turn this into an arguement over laws just saiyin "WOW" close one. i dont really ever do it anymore and last night was a close call. i went online to the a cal law firm and they have the law clearly spelled out here is the link

Exhibition of Speed (Non-priorable as a California DUI)
California Vehicle Code§ 23109.

No person shall engage in any motor vehicle speed contest on a highway. As used in this section, a motor vehicle speed contest includes a motor vehicle race against another vehicle, a clock, or other timing device. For purposes of this section, an event in which the time to cover a prescribed route of more than 20 miles is measured, but where the vehicle does not exceed the speed limits, is not a speed contest.
No person shall aid or abet in any motor vehicle speed contest on any highway.
No person shall engage in any motor vehicle exhibition of speed on a highway, and no person shall aid or abet in any motor vehicle exhibition of speed on any highway.
No person shall for the purpose of facilitating or aiding or as an incident to any motor vehicle speed contest or exhibition upon a highway in any manner obstruct or place any barricade or obstruction or assist or participate in placing any barricade or obstruction upon any highway.
Any person convicted of a violation of subdivision (a) shall be punished by imprisonment in the county jail for not less than 24 hours nor more than 90 days or by a fine of not less than three hundred fifty-five dollars ($355) nor more than one thousand dollars ($1,000) or both that fine and imprisonment. The person's privilege to operate a motor vehicle shall be subject to suspension as provided in subdivision (a) of Section 13352. The person's privilege to operate a motor vehicle may be restricted for 90 days to six months to necessary travel to and from that person's place of employment and, if driving a motor vehicle is necessary to perform the duties of the person's employment, restricted to driving in that person's scope of employment. This subdivision does not interfere with the court's power to grant probation in a suitable case.
Any person convicted of a violation of subdivision (a) for an offense which occurred within five years of the date of a prior offense which resulted in a conviction of a violation of subdivision (a) shall be punished by imprisonment in the county jail for not less than four days nor more than six months and by a fine of not less than five hundred dollars ($500) nor more than one thousand dollars ($1,000). Additionally, the Department of Motor Vehicles shall either suspend the person's privilege to operate a motor vehicle, as provided in subdivision (a) of Section 13352, or the person's privilege to operate a motor vehicle shall be restricted for six months to necessary travel to and from that person's place of employment and, if driving a motor vehicle is necessary to perform the duties of the person's employment, restricted to driving in that person's scope of employment. This subdivision does not interfere with the court's power to grant probation in a suitable case.
If the court grants probation to any person punishable under subdivision (f), in addition to the provisions of subdivision (f) and any other terms and conditions imposed by the court, which may include a fine, the court shall impose as a condition of probation that the person be confined in the county jail for not less than 48 hours nor more than six months. The person's privilege to operate a motor vehicle shall also be suspended by the Department of Motor Vehicles pursuant to subdivision (a) of Section 13352 or shall be restricted pursuant to subdivision (f).
If any person is convicted of a violation of subdivision (a) and the vehicle used in the violation is registered to that person, the vehicle may be impounded at the registered owner's expense for not less than one day nor more than 30 days.
Any person who violates subdivision (b), (c), or (d) of this section shall upon conviction thereof be punished by imprisonment in the county jail for not more than 90 days or by fine of not more than five hundred dollars ($500) or by both that fine and imprisonment.
If a person's privilege to operate a motor vehicle is restricted by a court pursuant to this section, the court shall clearly mark the restriction and the dates of the restriction on that person's driver's license and promptly notify the Department of Motor Vehicles of the terms of the restriction in a manner prescribed by the department. The Department of Motor Vehicles shall place that restriction in the person's records in the Department of Motor Vehicles and enter the restriction on any license subsequently issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles to that person during the period of the restriction.
The court may order that any person convicted under this section, who is to be punished by imprisonment in the county jail, be imprisoned on days other than days of regular employment of the person, as determined by the court. (l) This section shall be known and may be cited as the Louis Friend Memorial Act.

Okay it's called excessive acceleration not exhibition of speed.

Excessive acceleration: No person shall operate a motor vehicle on any highway in such a manner as to cause or allow to be emitted squealing, screeching, or other such noise from the tires in contact with the ground because of rapid acceleration or excessive speed around corners or other such reason, except that noise resulting from emergency operation to avoid imminent danger shall be exempt from this provision.

i didnt say you cant get rolled for it i said it wasnt exhibition of speed. and i have been pulled for squeeling at a light and told the officer that my foot slipped off the clutch and he let me go no problem. it could have been the cop it could have been the fact that he realized that he couldnt prove otherwise. either way its happened. but that isnt the topic i didnt post to argue about laws just to share my story

is it worth it? no. does that mean we won't do it? absolutely not.

like it or not, people do it all the time, every day.

if he wants to go doing a little racing, then that's what he does. spare us the "pep talk".

in all reality you could probably get out of it but they could also say that the tires are unsafe to operate on the road. but if they have tread and are just under inflated then you could definately pull it off. some people like to make a bigger deal of things than they are like shown above.
