I don't drive my car hard, but i've noticed lately if I shift hard and fast from first to second, I hear a loud thump. I can squeal the tires when I shift, but I also hear the loud thump. It doesn't do it in any other gear. Im assuming it's probably a traction issue, or something, is this normal? I know I shouldn't be shifting hard, and I usually don't but is this normal?

I used to have it during my first year of driving but then i learned to shift more smoothly. I always thought it was a terrrible sound though, still curious as to what it was, i just thought it was clutch/gears getting f#cked.

ehhh.... your just dropping the clutch too fast. That sound happens in just about all manual tranny cars. also, dropping clutch and chirping tires equals to wasting tire, tranny damage, axle damage.

I feel a slight grind when I shift at redline into 2nd and 3rd. I am not sure if it is the way that I am shifting (maybe slightly quick on the clutch) or if it is my syncros going out. It does not do it all of the time, but is getting more frequent so I am guessing syncros. BTW is this in the wrong forum LOL???

"That's what I was going to say, hp doesn't kill, torque does. From what I have seen the only thing that really consistant kills manual tranies is the driver. The 3rd gear syncro grinding is generally the first sign that you suck at shifting (some are just goofy and grind for no reason) but if you shift right you won't have any problems (after an upgraded clutch)."
