my si vs focus

Hey guys I have an 02' civic si with dc sports headers, AEM cai, and a greddy catback. My buddy has an 01' focus zx3 with the 2.0L zetec and I always get a good pull on him when we race.

last night I was going home from work and I saw an ugly white focus sedan. He had a buddy and they were glancing over at me and my friend at a couple of lights. He had a 2.3 badge on the back of the car and I thought he was full of **** because the sedans didn't come with the 2.3L or so I thought. My friend says I will smoke him bad so I rev at the next light. He got a pretty good launch and mine was ok. In 1st I was at his rear bumper. Then I was suprised because he kept pulling on me through 2nd and 3rd. I shut down around 85 and he was a good 3 cars ahead of me. I was like WTF My buddy rolled down the window and asked him what he had under the hood he said something like intake and exhaust.

watch out for those focuses. they arent as slow as some of us may think

Yeah those things are pretty quick. I beat the same SE twice in my 5spd LX. It's my friends and he has a stock auto. If it were a stick i'm sure it'd kill me.

The Zetecs (you're friend's car) are pretty underpowered considering that they're 2.0L DOHC, 16 valves, etc...only 130bhp. The 2.3 Duratecs (around 150hp, and what you raced) have been shown to keep up with the old SVT Focus in any drag race...and I thought I'd never have to talk about the Focus again here

well I am pretty dissapointed. I figured I am probably making as much power as a stock svt focus so a base model sedan shouldn't be much of a problem. It makes sense now that I know the 2.3L must have a lot of torque so he should kill me off the line. if we met on the highway at a roll maybe it would be a different story

or maybe i must admit complete and utter defeat
if only i still had my old 5.0 mustang

Ay who cares you can't win them all besides that you don't know what he had under the hood people also lie sometimes like when he told you he had intake and exhaust he might just say that to make himself look better when really he might have flywheel, pulleys headers you never know

it was too old. I was installing some hood pins and a buddy moved the car without securing the hood and it flipped up, shattered the windshield and did some damage to the hood. It also has old paint, bald tires and a clutch that is soon to go out. I didn't want to drive it again so i sold it and bought a new car instead.

I got $1800 for it. Which is pretty good considering the condition the car was in. The guy just bought it because he liked the mile long list of mods done to the car by the previous owner. The previous owner told me that the car is making 300 horsepower at the wheels, which is pretty good since a stock motor makes something like 225 hp at the crank. More imprtantly that thing was a torque monster. All that torque is something I'm gonna miss. With new tires and a new clutch that thing would be fast as hell.

i have a friend that has a hb zx3 focus. but he has the jackson racing s/c with water injection kit full header back exhaust and short shifter. he has had it like this for quite some time and he is having some valve issues. with those mods with the valve issues and no water in the injection system he ran a 14.1 at carlsbad raceway in socal. this was baout a year ago. the car has been kind set aside beauase he also has a 03 cbr600f4I, a 95 ninja 600 and a bug he is building to be pretty much straight track. the bug will runs 11's on a 75 shot when its complete. but i have been trying to get him going on the focus again i bought him a can of denatured alcohol to run through the injection system and i have been trying to get him to install the higher boost pulley for the s/c. last itme he had it installed he was running really lean be cuae the injectors and pump couldnt keep up with the fuel demand. so he is changing to a set of mustang injectors and pump. over all its pretty damn fast for a little ford. i know i cant keep up in my vic or my truck. even with my turbo kit i am putting on my truck i still wont be able to keep up.

he has an 02, stock they were 2744 according to what i found. 04+ they made some changes, probably all for the worse weight wise (17" wheels for example) so 2650 isn't super unrealistic.

EDIT: i just realized 17's aren't standard, but part of HFP package. my bad. but still, new ones are heavier
