GT-S vs 330 CI vs Taurus SHO

I had a long drive home at like 1am this morning and this blue taurus came flyin past me (I was cruisin at 90) like I was standing still and then the crazy bastard slammed on his brakes (empty freeway) I hought or sure he might lose control cause he drifted in front of me and got a bit squirly. luckily he pulled through it and he started pacing me and acting like a damn ricer which was very annoying. so he slows down to around 75 and I figured I'd go for it if it'll make him just go away and soon as I start to slow down the dumb a$$ takes off. I had already dropped down into 3rd so I went too. from 120 -140 I stared pullin back some ground and right before I could start to pass him the moron darts in my lane almost losing control again. so I figure screw this moron he's gonna kill us. so I slow down and he KEEPS cuttin me off. I was gettin pissed. I slowed all the way to 20 mph for like 10 miles on the damn freeway and the loser stayed on me. so I crept up to about 80 and he paced me again so I figured I'd take the jump and of course he followed. same thing happened he pulled up even by 120 but from 120 - 140 I pulled a lil bit.

we flew past this red 330 CI that I guess decided to join in cause when I shut down this thing was noticeably gaining and of course the goober in the SHO was STILL acting like a moron and trying to get me to race again which I wasnt going to do until the 330 blew past us and the slowed down until he was pacing us. I got the jump again cause I figured the 330 didnt have much of a chance anyways lol. I know I should know better then to underestimate people but nobody is perfect. same results 80- 120 I was even with the SHO and I couldnt see the bmw too well but it looked like he was in the middle of the SHO. I thought that was pretty good for the 330 lol then from 120-140 the bmw took the show I hit a damn wall at 140 cause the stock airbox sux up top. at 130 the bmw started creeping up and as soon as I hit that wall at 140 the bmw just kept on goin.

both cars had exhaust at the least and the bmw was lowered. the 330 was the new 2005 model. I was realy impressed with it's top end. the way he kept pullin I'd say he was hitting about 160 before he shut down. when my car died his was getting it's second wind lol

bmw says they top out at 135 mph and go 0-60 in 9.3 seconds lol I can tell ya that don't stay true for long aparently lol

Specs on the 330ci: http://www.bmwusa.com/vehicles/3/330...e/techdata.htm

Not sure where yours came from

If it was still pulling around 140mph, that means it would have to have the performance package with a top speed of 155 and going 0-60 in 6.9sec.

Good runs.

yeah, BMW underrates there cars. I know my housemate hit 140mph in his 330 ci and had room to go more. I saw a lot of people hit 155-160 in their 330ci's if you go to the e46 forums. But holy ****, you guys were going 120-140mph on the freeway? Thats crazy, glad no one got hurt at that speed.

yeah I was pretty surprised.

can't wait til my heads done cause I'm hopin it'll free up some of the power loss I have up top. my car is actually slower up top then most celicas. but down low and midrange I can put car lenghts on other celicas. still cant figure out why some celicas do this.

also this was done at 1am with nobody else on the road. it's 4 lanes for a good 20 miles lol

330 CI's are mid 14 second cars, aren't they?

They put up a good fight for me. I can usually count on a top-end loss to a 330, but 328's and 325's don't pull as hard.

Kinda heavy... 3400-3600 lbs.

I've seen SHO's run low 12's lol

NO, I don't have turbo. right now all I have is no muffler lol everything else is stock. with my intake and ecu in I top out at 155.

http://www.ssmoparmuscle.com/speedcomp.htm lists the 2004 330I performance package at 14.3 1/4 mile and 5.6 0-60 so mid 14's is about right.
I guess I've never run into that version before. usually the ones I see are high 15 second cars.

Celica GT-S's have and EXTREMELY peaky powerband, with the "lift" portion occuring very close to redline, and for a very brief time. Think of it as a very narrow, but much more potent VTEC. A decent driver will be able to stay in this zone throughout the run, taking his GT-S to the very low 15's for a stock quarter time.

A sure way to NOT hit this small powerband is to drive an auto, and as far as "feeling" it, you're rarely going to feel 140 ft-lbs unless you're in a stripped CRX or old Hatch.

I felt the 160ft-lb in my 4 cylinder Accord about as much as a feel the 365 ft-lb in my truck, and my truck has a 4.10 rear end. Than agian the Accord final drive is 4.44.

100% stock my best was 14.7 as is the case with several gt-s owners that took the time to race more then once stock lol all it takes is landing solid in lift and a 2.1 60' to get it. most people pull 2.3 60' or higher and most can't land lift so times vary ALOT.

easiest way to put it is by comparing a 2000 gt-s to a 2002 gt-s (most commony used in magazine testing) the 2002 has an early rev limiter of 7800 vs the 2000's 8350 rpms. even with a perfect driver it's impossible to land in lift. you can fake it by feathering the clutch alot or spinning the tires but taht slows you down too lol there's about .4 second difference between the 2 versions. the AUTO is even worse. now you're robbing more hp/tq, adding a few extra lbs, and landing WAY outa the power band on each shift. auto gts run in the 17's very often. so yeah, theres a HUGE difference.

everything turtle said was exactly right
