Talon ESI

Well my home town best friend works with a guy who has a Talon ESI and for the past couple of months me and the guy have been going back and forth about who would win. He has I/H/E and a 5spd. So finally it is nice out and the roads are dry so I go home with every intention of racing him. He did not go over to my budies house last night so we all drove to his house today and woke him up. We went from a dig on a back road that has two lanes and I got bitch. I waited until I heard him launching to launch so I would not be accused of starting ahead. Well we both go equally crappy lauches on our winter tires but I got about 1/4 of a car. I maintained a 1/4 of a car until about 105 or so and then I pulled bad until about 125 when I shut down. We then turned around and headed back he took off agian and I followed him agian I maintained = distance until about 100 and then pulled him in quick. So I say it is a compleate draw in a 1/4 mile, but the civic pulls bad after 100. Also there has been some discussion about the top speed of a civic, well at 125 I was at around 6k in 5th, Vtec was on and the car was still pulling. So I say at around 135-140 I would have hit the rev limiter in 5th. However after realizing how compleatly stupid it was to go that fast I don't think I will test my theory out.

you'll hit a speed limiter at about 130-135

you should take your car to the track and run a couple times and then post time slips. by your stories you seem to be a good driver so i want to see if its true. but until then i'll always have my doubt about your races.

I don't think that I have one becuase I swaped my tranny. I think with the auto it controls the max speed through the tranny some how because with the auto I hit a limiter at 110. With a manual I think it works different, but I have a 5spd with a auto ECU so I don't think I have a limiter if so I think that it would have kicked in at around 115 or so. Like I said earlier I am not going to test my theory.

I really want to, but I kind of want to set my car up for autox and get into that. I am not sure were the closest drag strip is around here . What ever I do I have decided to stop racing on the streets so there will be no more kills posted by me. I have to much to lose

swapped your tranny?

you bought an auto civic and swapped it out with a manual tranny?

and no, it has nothing to do with your tranny. it's the ecu.

yeah I made a big mistake, but fixed it and it is great now. But yeah it no matter the speed (105-110) I was always cut off at around 5.5K in 4th the damn tach would just stop. I think that that is how the ECU in a auto determines when to pull the plug from some sort of feed back from one of the shift cylinoids either that or the signal runs through one of the signals in the tranny. I really think that now I would just hit the rev limiter in 5th because the auto and manual ECUs are not the same so my auto ECU does not get any signal at all. I am sure that if I looked in my helms I could figure it out

I paid $600 for the swap and did it all myself. The only other expense was $40 for a engine hoist plus some misc stuff and $80 for a Helms. I also put in a short shifter, clutch and flywheel That was a bit extra I really don't remember how much though.

Yeah, some may say crazy, but I am sure that many others including myself would like to say stupid. My car really gets up to speed alot faster than you would think. I would say that I was to 125 at around 1/2-5/8 of a mile (no more than that) who knows though going that fast you don't look at stuff like that
