1996 Talon ESI for my 2001 Civic EX?
1996 Talon ESI for my 2001 Civic EX?
I found an ad in the paper about a dealership in my area selling a 1996 Eagle Talon ESI 5-speed with 71k miles on it. It's power everything with dual airbags and apparently in really great shape. I am not too familiar with Eagle Talons, but I believe they are DSM, right? These cars probably have much more potential with power, but can anyone tell me if they are quality cars? This car is being sold for $5000 and if I were to purchase it, I'd sell my Civic because I can't afford insurance on 2 cars and would like to have some money to work on the Talon. What do you guys think? Any advice or knowledge of these cars? I know half of you are full of sh*t, but I stick around and ask these questions because I know there are some people here that know what they are talking about . Dang, I'm going to get burned for that one, but yah..someone with useful information or knowledge of Eagle Talon please reply. Thanks.
my friend has a Talon... nice car. Sure if you want power, definately dump the Civic. As for the Talon being a quality car, yes it is, but not as good as our civics. At 71k miles, you might have to get ready for some engine tune-ups, but if you want to work on the car anyway, I say go for it... the Talon WILL NOT last as long as your civic by a long-shot but if you aren't worried about years from now, go for the Talon.
...Just my opinion though...

I'm not sure on the trim lines of the Talon, but I'm sure they share the same turbo motors that the last gen Eclipses have. If it's the turbo motor, then the base HP is at least 200 with crazy potential for more power. Do they make and all wheel drive Talon?

just depends on how much you would have leftover to work on the talon. i personally wouldnt do it, but given several g's to put into some nice mods for it would be considerable. i dont really like the look of those tho
An ESi? pfft, bad call. My friend has an ESi 5 speed and it's def got some torque/ horse power but they weigh a lot and it's rear wheel drive so he gets a pretty good launch, he went through three clutches, he bought it used a year ago. Another friend of mine same age, same car, even the same color, has a TSi, its the non-AWD and all he has is a blow off valve (GReddy type-S) And that car will mess a lot of cars up. ESi is crappy man, I waste the ESi anyday, but the TSi you can really get places quick, if u see talons used (and I kno cuz 2 of my friends have both models) you'll see that the TSi isnt that much more expensive over the ESi, my TSi buddy also needed a clutch replacment tho, but reliabilty i'd give it a so-so, speed is def wit a AWD turbo, but ESi? not a good call.
Get the Talon. The 96-97 talon's with AWD's the one you want to get, i believe it's written in purple markers on the rear right side of the bumper. It's a good quality car and great power potential. Also if the interior comes in leather more power to you!

Dude I have a friend who is an Eclipse junkie and you can put any variety of motors into that Talon. Everything from a 92 GST/X motor (best bet) to a Plymoth Lazer motor.
