2000 Prelude....not to impressive

Ok just awhile ago i was cruisin in town with my friend he has an accord 98 with headers pulleys and intake and a 2000 Prelude with an intake starts passing us fast and waiting for us so finally we say WTF we are gonna lose but lets see what we got. I told him to race first. They start to race and the prelude leaves my friend for awhile but in third gear the accord passes him and beats him. So we go again and they stay right next to eachother. I had two people in the car with me and my sub box and i was staying right behind it was pretty awesome but i thought they were faster than that. My vic has headers exhaust venom chip and pulleys

regardless of whether or not it has more hp...if it can't move it's own weight faster than a civic can move it's own then it will be slower...

Yep, it's called Power to Weight ratio.

EXACTLY! People are to concerned with just straight HP. There are many more factors that contribute to a car's speed.

very true.

was the 98 accord v6? or inline 4? Either way, 5-spd prelude will beat AV6 or AI4 with no problem.
Iam an ex owner of 2002 accord v6, and current owner of 2001 5-spd prelude. as far as straight line goes, av6 has to have more than I/H/P to keep up with stock prelude on a highway.

Also, I don't know what kind of civic you have, but it better be K20A civic, because stock 7th gen civic with useless vtec system will not hang with prelude at all.
Especially when the civic has 2 passengers and a sub.

I smell auto prelude(even auto would've smoked the civic), or manual prelude didn't downshift at all, or this story is just .

anybody in Northwest chapter, relatively close to Portland, Oregon, let me know. I'll gladly show you what prelude can do on a highway.

So are you saying a 200hp DOHC car that weighs the same as a 200hp SOHC car will be faster? You're kidding right? Like I said: DOHC doesn't mean fast, it's just an engine configuration.

When C&D tested the Prelude, they tested an SH (the heavier one) with a manual. They ran a 6.8 to 60 with it. Either the 'lude was an auto, or the guy couldn't drive. A Prelude should beat out a 4 cyl Accord any day.

In *general theory*, DOHC has top-end advantage over SOHC because of double over head cam instead of single. exhaustion is much better in terms of flowing.
however, DOHC tend to lose slight low-end torque over SOHC.

this does not apply to every car though. Some high-end mercedes sports car still uses SOHC for better low-end and also gops of power.

however, in this case, it doesn't really matter if its DOHC or SOHC.
"its not impressive for a dohc" is plain ignorant comment to make if you are a car enthusist.

My little civic would pull on them at the start then they both leave me by like a car and then we would stay the same and the accord would pull away it was a 4 cyclinder accord and i know how fast a lude is but i know civics that can kill it!

Your civic pulling on them at the start?

Prelude is known for its infamous 4000k clutch slip launch. I never lack too much low-end power compare to other hondas, and thats how some preluders get amazing 60ft times compare to others.

In reality, given equal drivers, prelude should pull on civic from a launch slightly. As the RPM reaches higher and speed gets faster, prelude would be pulling away pretty hard.

I know how slow 6th generation 4cyl accord manual is. They run mid 16s at best stock.
With I/H/E/P, proven to run high 15s AT THE MOST.
Prelude stock is capable of very low 15s, few guys with I/H/E running high 14s with ease.

Its hard to believe your story as 4cyl accord pulled away from prelude, and your civic stayed the same with prelude.

I don't think is prelude is fast stock. Its just 7th generation civic is slow stock.
Its not meant for racing. Not to mention that prelude is also made for handling not drag.
But I definitely do know ALOT OF CIVICS that can kill prelude without a single problem.
but those civics has nothing to do with your 7th generation civic nor this conversation doesn't it?

Is there any stock d17 civic 5-spd willing to race a stock h22a prelude in Northwest region? or modified d17 civic vs modified h22a prelude?

I will film the accord beating the prelude and we can see maybe he doesnt know how to launch but out of 4 times the accord won three times in the end like at 100mph not quarter mile and the last time the lude killed the accord the accord has v tec power pulleys aem intake dc headers dc exhaust and obx spark wires
