for those of you who own an automatic, how do you normally race your car? some people say to go 2nd, d3, then drive and others have said to just use d3 and some just say to leave it in d and just smash on the pedal??? what works best for you when you race someone?

when i had auto, then best thing that worked for me, well it was a nissan, was going to the lowest nuber(in that case 1), then going to up one at a time till it gets to d
ok well this is what i do.... i take overdrive off (D3) and brake stand on the gas to partially stall up my 2800 stall torque converter and load up the suspension some.... if i can then manage to keep my *** end going strait with the shift kit and all i have in her she will shift at 56-5700 rpm and since i jump strait into my powerband i launch like a bat-outta-hell, if only i could cure that traction problem though
now i dunno how well this trick works on civic auto trans but most trannies have this wire going to it from the computer which controls the computer lockup (in my car and many others its and orange wire) if you put a switch of some sort in it then some autos can pick up like 2-3 seconds ive heard

yea thats what i thought as well but on a civic its starts off 2nd then goes up in D3 which just cycles through the first 3 gears and then D, so since 2nd gear doesnt downshift wouldnt that give you a slow start?
when i drove the 99 ex...i just put goth feet on the pedals...held the brake...hiting the gas at the same time...just enough so the car didn't start moving. then....slip the brake and go!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i used to peel out..(sometimes) othertimes i would just grab nice and fly. then again.....it wasn't too fast...rockin the 99ex sedan. hah!
i leave it in D without changing any gear.
if i knew i was ready to race.. i put it in "N" neutral, hold down the brake hard, rev. ur brake pedal will release. then put it back in "D" still holding the brake down. now its in "D". brake pedal is still held down and i gas just a little so it goes somewhere between 1500-2300 rpm.so now your launching around those rpm's giving a better start compared starting from 1000rpm. when light turns red or signal shows... let go of brake AND smash gas pedal at the same time. <---- make sure if you step on gas, foot off brake pedal is completely off.
"left foot brake, right foot gas"

you know when i just smash down on the pedal, my car will redline in every gear and sometimes it stays there for while that it worrys me and ill let off.
do any of your civics throw you back in your seat or do you just go?

i would probably say 80% of my races that i've won. of course most of those cars were older model cars like caddy/buick/chrysler/gm branded, older civics, older integs, older preludes. cars i've lost to were custom chevy truck, integ gsr and mustang gt sc? (i race this one because the woman was like 30 something and she revved AT ME
) so i did it for fun... she doesnt know how to drive stick, she tried launching but i heard her revving lol. dam woman JetBlu01 rofl directed at you. first off a 4 door auto can own some cars i do it a lot, very few but some. also if you get work done its a great sleeper. thats what im doing sf turbo sleeved block low comp pistons rods and level 10 upgraded tranny.
I like you! do you like me?

yea my auto is slow as hell but i have alot of fun with it. i race by starting in D3, power braking to about 2500 rpm and that gets a pretty nice launch. then once in 2nd, i put it into 2, redline then put it into d3 again and it redlines again... i make the best of it, ya know? (i know its bad for the tranny, but its a lease!)

Don't ever put it in 2 and then go up to D3 cause it's really slowww. What is most effective for me is leave it in D3 push the brake in all the way rev it in between 1500 and 2000 and let off the brake as a slam the gas down and after playin around and tryin to perfect it that way was the best. Also I'm runnin a 75 shot so as soon as it shifts to 2nd I spray and it hauls serious *** especially with bottle pressure close to 1000. I've been told that automatics hold boost better because it stays spooled up longer so if you go turbo with an upgraded transmission you'd have a bad *** auto civic but standard is still more fun to drive.
Agree with big_daddy_b_99. I have manual transmission, but i had automatic car before. When you put it in D2, I believe D2 does not use 1st gear and only uses 2nd gear so D2 will skip 1st gear. The reason for that is D2 is designed to be used on snowy road ( slippery road ). I belive it says so in the manual. Instead of using 1st gear ( for more power but slow turning which will cause wheel spin on slippery road), using 2nd gear will prevent wheel spin. Well, for manual transmission, they do same thing. When you are driving on a snowy road, its better to use 2nd gear to start. Because starting with 1st gear, tires will just slip, and if you are on a uphill, you know what will happen. Driving with 2nd gear kills the clutch, but it will prevent your car doing wheel spin on slippery road.
So the bottom line, correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that its faster to use D3 (overdrive off). Because if you start with D1, everytime when you move to next gear, computer will take more time to calculate and shift. So just let your computer do the calculation while "racing" and shift at the appropriate time.
