Me with my new FIPK vs. Chevy 1500
First off, I must admit: I have been a little ricey in my driving habits due to two reasons. The first, and most obvious, is that I just installed my intake two days ago, and every now and then I like hearing it get loud [it makes me think I'm cooler]. Secondly, upon fixing my throttle cable problem, I tightened it more than I'm used to, pretty much eliminating all slack on the accelerator pedal.
So I was driving with my friend today down a two lane, yet wide, road when I came upon two consecutive red lights. When the first turned green, I rolled out normally, then revved the engine up a bit to show my friend the difference in sound. Well, this Chevy 1500 truck next to me also revved up his car, only to pull up to the second red light next to me. I was like, "oh, he wants to play..." He started revving in neutral, rolled down his window and said, "Are you ready? Hahahahahha
. Let's do it..." in a very cheerful voice. His friend was also kidding around. I laughed and was like, "sure... hehe."
Well, light turns green, and I screwed up my launch pretty badly. I didn't burn out, it's just that I wasn't used to the more responsive pedal. He launched pretty well [RWD] and took off. I pulled a little bit while I was behind him, but we hit pretty much even acceleration, with him being just a slight bit faster. Anyways, we both shutdown at about 80ish and cruised down the road. He went into the right turn lane at the next red light [which was about a mile down], and I flashed my high beams as he and his friend both waved the peace sign out their open windows. It was fun, but I got pretty much raped
.
I'm not sure, but I think those things have a V8. I also didn't realize that his car was stick until my friend pointed out that he launched, and that he was rolling back at the light.

My dad has a Silverado SS, and that thing would kick the **** outta my civic.

Chances are if it was a manual Silverado, it didn't have the most powerful engine option.

For the 1500's in 1999 the top engine was the 5.3L V8 with 270hp.

You can't tell me a 5.7 liter V8 only had 175hp. Thats a crock of **** to me. Yes if it was a manual he would win but I doubt it.

When big trucks are manual, they are generally quite a bit slower than their automatic counterparts.

A manual diesel pickup needs roughly 100 more horsepower than its automatic counterpart to be just as fast.
