neon and me

I cross posted this from s2ki.com

I recently had Johnny S2k over and he was ever so gracious to let me drive his S2000. Needless to say, my current mode of transportation/race whoring is a 2003 V6 6-spd navi Accord. Though my girlfriend is quite fond of it, I'd much rather have my S2000 back. (i'll get to that in a minute)

I was able to squeeze out my first race in the new beast since I haven't had much heart to race at all since leaving my S2k behind. But I guess since my heinous bitch of an ex-fiancee cheated and then left me (i got rid of my S2000 for her.... ) and my new girlfriend seems to get a kick out of me accelerating at a normal Wisconsin S2k (my s2ki.com name) pace, I have begun to get back into the car scene.

I was driving today and happened to pull out behind one of my all-time favorite vehicles to race. A neon. Between neons and tiburons, I have enough of an ego built up from racing them, that I probably feel I am an unstoppable race ***** beast who cannot be taken down by any ricer.

Being that I drive a 14.5 second accord, I do know my place. This neon driver, however, apparently does not know his. Nor does he know what a good paint job would be. Red car, with silver stripes in the shape of a cross spanning the entire length of the car is tacky to say the least. Congratulations my friend, good taste > you.

The windows are rolled down on his car, probably so he can go "bumping" by the middle school hoping to pick up some 8th grader or something, and he has an open sunroof. I can see his friend with his backwards hat in the passenger seat, bobbing his head up and down to something probably close to the likes of "gangster nation" or that "lil jon and eastside boyz" song where lil jon does nothing more than shout "ooookaaayyyy".

I end up next to him at a light, and have my own music up loud enough that I can't confirm my previous suspicion. However, he is certainly in the mood for a little race, as he takes off with a squeal of the tires at the light. (neons can burn rubber? must be one of them ess arr tee fuorssss) I floor it, more than willing to show how much more uber cool I am (ego talking) and even with traction control cutting in on the fun, I'm more than able to make quick work of him. But of course, you expected that..... much like you'd expect a 12-year old boy to come out of a michael jackson party with a new understanding of "love".

So my taste is satisfied for the time being, but I will be taking my video camera on some adventures this weekend as we hit the cruise strip and street races. With any luck I'll be able to get some girls to flash the camera, so even if I get crappy race footage, you'll still watch just to see my homemade girls gone wild race version.

Some of the baddest sport compacts i have ever been in or around are neons. An 8 second race neon, a 10 second all motor neon that competed in car and driver's supercar challenge. It did horribly though because the clutch and oil pump failed in its quarter mile run. It also has about 100 more hp, and torque now than when it was at car and driver. The guy that builds them is 17. He builds them for Howell Automotive in Keyser WV. They are good friends of mine. You can read the article about the all motor neon here: http://www.caranddriver.com/article....&page_number=6
