Matching lights to wheels...
Started out with the cleared headlights, which matched the polished finish on my Si rims, but my new OZ's are darker than the car. So now I have this dark/light thing going on that I just don't think is working. I need a paint color that matches the wheels, I want to paint the headlight housings to match. A little darker than the wheels is ok, but I don't want black. Some color like Lexus IS Graphite Grey or G35 Diamond Graphite, but I don't know if touchup colors can be used in the housing because of the heat from the light bulbs. Does anyone know if they can? And what do you guys think of this move? Basically, I'm going for darker than the car, but still with a metallic paint so the headlights will have a little sparkle during the day, but not be 'chrome'.
Try looking for a transparent or semi-transparent black paint, like a candy black. That will allow the reflective housing to have a black hue and the more coats that get sprayed on the deeper it will be. I know Krylon makes a stained glass spray paint in some different colors that will give you a similar effect but I don't think they make a black. You can also try to find a solid color metallic gray, maybe at an automotive store that sells paint and have someone spray them that color, depending on how bad you want it to match your O.Z. wheels.
Your car looks sweet with those rims, but I think it would look much better w/o the mud flaps. My rims are going to be hyper black and I think I'm gonna keep the cleared headlights.
If I were you I would just drop it and take the mudflaps off. Looks great!
