Lightbulb THE NEW PROJECT...

I got a new project to work on. It's my girl's 1993 del Sol Si.

It's got 68.5K on the odometer, but it still runs strong. We (by "we" i mean "I") were planning on a couple body kits and stuff, but are still in the planning stages. Plus we're (I'm) broke as ****. This is the plan:

Stage 1
Stage 1 clutch
Intake, header, exhaust
full suspension with strut and tie bars
a major tune up

Stage 2
Rims
Body Kit (Buddy Club possibly)
Custom Fenders

Stage 3
B16 Swap
Major interior work
Paint job

More to come, and these aren't final. I gotta run it past her first...

why are you going to do clutch, header and intake, then do the engine swap? You are going a little bit backwards in your though process.

yeah really, just do the tuneup and suspension work, and anything else that can be carried over after the swap.

well, we're not sure on the engine swap yet. she wants a show car more than a race car. It's better that way so she won't get so many speeding tickets...

the Si motor is potential if she wants more show. do the suspension and wheels first. then decide whether or not you really want to do a swap or maybe just a supercharger or turbo for the little sohc motor, since it still runs strong. that way you still have some power and it wont be too fast to keep her speeding down. if you go with the supercharger, say jackson racing, you can go ahead and get the header, exhaust, and intake becasue all of that can be used with the supercharger. then look into maybe internals and some pullies. you may need a new clutch after that, ecspecially an older honda clutch, then you are throwing some power to it. then work on the looks, body kit, interior, ICE, paint, tint.

but i would say suspension and wheels, then engine (either swap or other way), then clutch, then go from there. good luck. hope she lets you do it all. and keep us updated with some pics man.

Well in theory, you should buy the engine and upgrade everything and then drop it in. No sense pulling it out to re-build it. And you should probably also paint it between the engines... so the engine bay gets done.
so it really should be:
1. Buy B16
2. Upgrade internals and clutch
3. Paint Car
4. Drop in B16.

the Si motor is potential if she wants more show
Ok... please explain this one. If you want more show, you swap the engine for a more powerful one? Seems like a little bit of backwards logic there, spending a lot of money on power rather than looks... I don't get that. Seems to me like if you want to race, then you swap it. I know the B16 looks cooler and I understand that you should equally spend money all over the car, but with some fancy polishing and a little bit of work you could make the D that's in it equally as show worthy for less money.

So now that the engine work is out of stage 1, you can push the rims up there, and get your drop, bars and rims all at once. I seriously think you could get a really good show effect by just cleaning up the stock engine (chrome, powder coat parts, etc....), I think it would come out really good that way, and you could toss the extra $5k or whatever the whole swap job would cost into something else on the car.
