Trade in Vic for IS300?

Edit: read post #17 or #19... sold the Vic and got an RSX Type S about 15 months ago.

Okay, here's the scenario:

I just bought my 03 Civic 4 months ago ($320 a month for 60 months). 2 weeks after I bought it, I find out that I could've gotten an 02 IS300 for $450 a month... but for 7 years. Keep in mind that my auntie know's someone at the dealership. Also keep in mind that the IS is a demo car with about 6000 miles on it, so I could probably get the monthly payments down a little more. My car has 5300 miles on it right now. I talked to the guy and he said they'll buy my car. And when I say 'they'll buy my car,' I don't mean for $12k-$15k... I mean they'll pay for the whole thing.

I want to know if you guys think it's worth it. I used to think it wasn't, but now i'm not so sure. I could always wait till the end of this year... maybe by then I can go for the 03 IS300 demo. Or I could just stick with my Civic and save up the extra money, that I would've been spending on the IS, for modifications on my Civic.

If you're wondering why the payments/prices are so high... it's probably because I live in Hawaii (I'm not being sarcastic... sorry if it sounded like I was). For some reason an extra $3k-$5k is added to the prices of the cars here in Hawaii... before tax.

Personally, I think it is worth it but that's because I love the IS300. Not only that though, you're getting a really good deal on a really nice car, I'd take it. Just my opinion though.

I really like the IS300, but the people I know who've had demo cars have had a lot of problems with them.

Bottom line - I wouldn't do it unless I could put a huge down payment on it. Then again, I pay for my stuff up front, and when I do charge, I pay off that month.

How much do you make a year and how much does the car cost?

sc1golfr - Thanks for the input.

white2K2EX - Let's just say I'll be comfortable with the monthly payments. (Don't really wanna say how much I make a year. I didn't even tell my family. Sorry.) As far as the cost of the car, the guy told me $30k. $450 a month for 7 years totals up to be more, but I guess that's where the interest kicks in. I mean, 7 years... that's an extra 2 years of interest to pay compared to my Civic (5 years).

WTF are you doing? $320 for 60 months to $450 for 7years!!!!! That is rediculous. How old are you? I'm only paying $374 on a 3 year loan on my vic. You got ripped and you will get ripped if you try to pay off a car over 7 years.

You could take out a loan on a small house for that amount of time. $450 of 7 years for that model Lexus? $hit, it had better suck and F me for that much over that long. I didn't even know they did car loans for anything over 5 years.

You obviously can't afford it if you are already paying that much. You also have to think about the major INSURANCE increase on a luxury car like a Lexus.

FlyRiceRacer02 - Yah, I thought about the insurance also. By the way, I'm 21. I didn't know about the 7 year financing either, but apparently it's possible. I can afford the payments... what says I can't? That's why I'm asking if it's worth it. If the Lexus IS 300 is worth buying.

And the cost of living in Hawaii is a little different (compared to some states). $320 is cheap compared to what other people got their Vics for here in Hawaii. Some guys have to pay $400. And I'm not like other kids who struggle to get their payments paid. I'm very financially stable.

I don't know man, if you were really stable then you could pay off that Lexus in something closer to 5 years. I am only skeptical because my ex-gf has a 97 Jeep that she has been fricken paying off for over 5 years. It's rediculous. What about a Mercedes C230 Kompressor? I think you should look at something more in that range.

LOL, or you could just go BUY your name and take out a 20 year loan on it.

I was thinking about doing the 5 year financing. But that's an extra $200 a month. I could save that $200 a month for future mods.

I was looking at other cars, but the only cars i'm interested in is the IS300 and the BMW 3 Series... although, I could always go domestic...

But I'm not in a rush. I could care less, really. I kinda don't want to ditch my Vic, too. I mean, don't get me wrong, I love the IS300 and the bimmers... but I can wait. I can work on my Vic till then... hehe.

What would the rest of you guys do if you were given this decision?

Trust me, you don't want to pay for something over 5-7 years. That is all.

Let's calculuate. $320 * 4 = $1280 you already paid.
The Lexus: 12 * 7 = 84 months @ 450/month = $37800

Congratulations, you just bought yourself a $39080 used Lexus IS300!

Yes, I realize the total of the IS in the end. Which is why I'm just asking if it's worth it.

So far:

Those who said 'Go for it!': 3

Those who said 'Not worth it dude!': 3

Remember, I'm just asking. I've put in a lot of thought about this (almost 2 months worth), before I put up this post. It's not like I have no idea what I would get myself into.

This is the first car (my 03 Vic) I actually bought and am paying for myself. Before this, I had an 88 Nissan 300ZX (it was already paid for... all I had to pay was insurance). I figure I can wait till this car is paid off, then I can get the car that I want. I mean... I'm only 21. No need for a flashy car just yet, right? Hehe!

Oh, and the 5-year financing was the only choice they (the dealership) gave me.

After reading all of this, I would personally save for a good while until I could afford to put a substantial down payment on a new IS300. Coz if I'm gonna be paying that much in the long run, I don't want seats someone else has farted in.

Take the difference of the payments and put it in the bank every month. Then when you've got enough to throw down to make the payments equal to that of your present Vic payment, buy the IS300. Then you'll be used to having that extra $130/month not in your pocket, so you can mod with it. Voila... brand new modded IS300, just a few years down the line.

Ya I saw don't go for it you end up paying much more than it's worth even though you would be pimpin in the IS. If your financially stable might as well just get yourself something within the same price range and just pay it off in like 3-4 years instead of 5 or 7 years.

Hi Azure,

Don't mind waht people said. Of course if you finance the car you will end up paying more, however you can enjoy the car sooner. It is a trade off.

As long as you are sure you will have a stable income for the next 7-10 years, you can basically just get it, 7 years is a long period of time, but if you are commited, it is short.

By the way, you aren't friend with CivicTuner, aren't you?

Wow, this thread was from over a year and a half ago. I'll go and edit the first post. Michael pretty much said it all (thanks man). I sold the Vic to my cousin and got an RSX Type S back in Aug 2003.
