Just wrecked my car!! s.o.b.!!

I rear-ended this girl on the way to work this morning. I have not had an official estimate, but he says he would guess it to be around $2,500 - $3,000. I have State Farm with a $500 deductible, so thank God for that. I was asking about aftermarket parts, he says I have to buy the parts now with my own money, but I will get reimbursed when he gets the money back, up to the amount of how much it would be with OEM parts. So if a carbon fiber hood is $500, he says they'll pay about $300 (price of OEM hood). I trust these guys, they did great work when my brother did this exact thing to his Civic.

The damage, I'll need to replace: headlights, front bumper, hood, radiator and cooler, tie bar.

I'd like to replace some things with aftermarket parts, but I would like State Farm to cover as much as possible. So if anyone has experience with this kind of situation, what kind of quality aftermarket parts can I get with minimal expense?

I know I want TYC black projectors, (I have nighthawk black) to start...

My Family has been in the auto colision repair business for 17 years, so here's a few pointers.

you could replace anny part with an aftermarket part, however the insurance co will only pay for the price of an OEM part.

meaning if you wanted an aftermarked radiator, and it cost $500, and the OEM one cost $250 then you will have to pay the difference.

With the hood, that is some thing you could work a little, as in The Insurance co will pay for the OEM part and the cost of painting the Hood as well as blending the fenders if they are not cheep. So If you wanted to put a Carbon Fiber hood on that cost $500, and the price of the OEM part is $300 + approx $100 to $200 depending on what is supose to get painted, you could cover the entire cost of the Carbon Fiber Hood under that. or pay the difference. Basically the insurance co will pay only to put it back to Pre crash conditions, anny thing else youll have to pay the difference on.

Good luck on the repair.

By the way OEM stands for Origianl Equipment Manufacturer.
and DO NOT accept aftermarket parts over OEM. I dont mean extras like a Fluidine Radiator or a carbon fiber hood. I mean Aftermarket body parts (Fenders hoods Lights ect..) I would take a used part any day over an aftermarket one.
And finally, Regarding used parts, It is illegal for an insurance co or a body shop to put used parts from an older car on to a newer. As in [Just because the 2001 civic is the same body as the 2002 they cant swap parts from the 2001 to the 2002. They can however swap parts form the 2002 to the 2001.]

If you allready have the parts installed pre crash the insurance may or may not cover the parts. It depends greatly on the insurance co. and if they knew about the parts pree crash.

I have State Farm as well. They will give you an esimate for all the parts with paint and istallation and usually it will be more expensive for OEM parts than after market. And they try to swing your way as much as possible when it comes to hookin you up. Someone tried to steal my old rims a while back and they scratch 3 of them up pretty good. They hooked me up and bought me a new set of rims!!!! I'm sure you'll make out for the better.

The service man made me aware that I would have to pay the difference on whatever I get. Carbon fiber hood doesn't need to be painted does it? Basically, I just really want the TYC black projectors. I'm going to check on the majestic honda site and get an idea of how much money I can play with. A different bumper would be cool, as long as it doesn't make the rest of my car out of pr

As for the guy whose insurance covered everything, you're one lucky s.o.b!!! Some companies do that, Cotton State I believe does that. State Farm does not.

As for being illegal to put used parts in cars, the service man told me Allstate does that all the time, thus he says they suck...

If you go to a good body shop they will wheel and deal with the adjuster and you can get anything. I got into a small accident and i got abuncha stuff out of it. Milk it for what you can. I got over $1500 in free stuff.

21st century insurance blows my nutts, i was rearended three weeks after i got the car, and it got messed up good, still waiting to get it back. i was going to do a bodykit with the difference in money but the bodyshop likes to do oem parts since they gaurentee it. so i just had them fix it to stock and i will get the aftermarket stuff with the settlemet.. 21st is soo difficult to deal with, thats the insurance the other guy has. i am still trying to get rembursed for everything.
