Installed Custom Door Sills...

I just finished one. There will be a DIY soon. They're not that hard to make, but it is time consuming. Aluminum bar and stainless steel screws. What do you think?

They look interesting. I'll take a look at them this weekend in person before I pass judgement.

BTW, what is it that you called them again?

Hurry up and post the DIY! I've been looking for something like this! Where did you get the aluminum, and how did you cut it?

I bought the aluminum from Lowe's. It was 2" x 1/8". The door shuts, so no problem with thickness. I actually checked 1/4" for door shutting. I used a jig saw to cut it and then I used a file to shape the corners. That was the time consuming part...

Anyways, thanks for the praise guys!

Yeah, I countersunk the aluminum and just screwed teeny tiny screws in. They hold pretty well. I was going to get slightly longer screws and go through the plastic and grip them with nuts and washers, but there's really no need. I'll upgrade to that kind of hardware if it starts to come loose. My original idea was to get a piece of aluminum and machine it so that it had to grooves running along it like the OEM door sills. Then just use some sort of double sided sticky tape to attach it to the stock door sills for a cleaner look. I don't have a milling machine though. Wish I did. I also had an idea of attaching rubber trips to it for grip. I would need to make grooves in the aluminum though, so again no go. I need a milling machine! People tell me it looks, "industrial". I kinda like it though, the screw pattern breaks up the flow of things, so any flaws are covered up. If the screw pattern was only on the outside edges then it would be hard to get the spacing right with the sloping and rounded edges.

Thats pritty cool, i dont like the exposed screws though. They sell some aluminum ones on ebay with CIVIC in them and they glow indiglow but there only for the 4 door.

Oh, I just popped it up so that I could remove that whole plastic piece. It disengages it from this other piece that affixed to the body of the car. If you don't do that, then you could bend or break something when you take out that plastic piece...

Oh, cool, I learned something today. I will have to remember that if I ever need to remove that piece. Those aluminum pieces do look awesome. I'd probably tear something up if I tried to do that..LOL
