My brand new civic...
My brand new civic...
Well to me anyway
I was looking for a car to be my DD since iam driving about 500 miles to work every week and my gli is not the best on mpg. It was sitting in my aunt yard for about a year and some months and i forgot about this car. It would not start at first but i jumped the battery and turned over right away. I think its a 89 civic lx (will check papers tomorrow for year) with about 220xxx miles on it
but the tranny still shifted smooth like keith stone.
Any way it only cost me $300. I i am well aware of the thief around here since this car has been stolen 7 times already. But always found without anything missing. Plus my cousin showed me how easy it is. He used his 98 civic key to open it and turn on the car which sucked. So i am probably not going to spend a lot of money on it for that same reason maybe a cheap alarm system or rig it to exploded or something. There is a anti theft system that my uncle developed and installed i will get a pic tomorrow tho since i did not get it today but its pretty funny.

Let me know of any problems these cars have and what i should look at since it has so many miles on it. Will update with interior pics and once i start to tuning her up.

Re: My brand new civic...
Older hondas/toyota ratio was around 1/5 keys, even the older american cars werent that great of a ratio, like 1/25 keys
I would just shave the keyhole, and then install a remote keyfob with alarm.
(though, it'd suck if your batt died XD)
Re: My brand new civic...
Its going to get kind of slow till i get my other car fix. First thing is try to figure out how to make it thief proof. I have this anti theft system installed now.

After that a cheap intake, fix whatever i find mechanically, then exterior. There is this school called botech or something like that its a automotive school and if you buy the paint they paint it for free since they use it to teach students how to paint(maybe). And then interior like replacing rug and maybe seats since there pretty beat up.

Re: My brand new civic...
yeah, that's the thing.
I had a shifter lock, pretty sturdy, bolted to the tunnel.
Very good metal in there. but since i did not have an alarm that makes noise, the thiefs had all the time to cut through. It was in my old VW back in Brazil, though.
So the chains work as long as you have something that will make noise so they don't have the time to cut.
them install a electrical power cut (something on the ignition, with the switch hidden wherever you want)

lol yea i decided not to even use it till i move out of the city. knowing my luck it will get stolen the same day and its just another target for driver here to hit. Also my cousin told me he has a 90 civic motor with about 120k on it and he also has a 89 accord motor that he took out of said car for a newer one although i dont think i will ever swamp for a bigger motor.

Sorry, i needed a second to get off the floor after seeing that anti-theft system
You know there's a quote button right? You don't have to copy and paste random sentences from people.

My toyota could be started with almost anything. Scissors, house keys, pretty much anything that would fit in the ignition cylinder. Apparently the 4x4 crowd liked to wear out their ignition cylinders so they could take the keys out while they were bagging in the bush.
Nice car BTW. There's not too many civic's out there that I think are ugly though.

Re: My brand new civic...
A fuel pump kill switch is a little better, as they drive a little and shut down, thinking your car is garbage and ditch it.
Kill switches do help prevent noob opportunist thieves though
My buddies 96 accord, opened to just about any house key

If it didnt open, wiggle it a little, and it'd open
Re: My brand new civic...
Well thief around here are pathetic the need a battery they will steal it. Tires, seats, any thing that might cost $10 at the auto parts they rather steal it instead of buying it.
Anyway, man cant believe its been almost four months since i got this car. Well i bought a new head gasket today and spark plugs. Got new brake fluid power steering fluid and I still need to motor oil but don't know which one to get.
Any way i found this tutorial on changing the head gasket your welcome to point to a better one if there is any.

Re: My brand new civic...
don't want a dead battery and no keys to open the door with. Took off my key hole on my vw but ended up putting it back because of this put might end up doing this and a alarm if i end up actually getting the car looking pretty nice.
Re: My brand new civic...
Sounds to me like some one is still in love. ^_^
Tomorrow iam going to get all the papers done and insurance so a can bring it closer to me and start working on it.

Re: My brand new civic...
Been a while since I have done anything to the cars. So let's start of saying that I got a new engine for it because the smoke just got worst. I got a d16y8 which is almost the same engine as the stock d15.
Stock engine out.

Rust in the block looked like rocks so I was going to have cooling problemsin the long run.

New engine from a junk yard.

Rust free.

Engine bay, somewhat ready for cleaning.

Tranny is also ready for cleaning, it full of grease so it will be easy to shine.
What do you guys use to clean the block? Maybe sand paper or something to put on a drill.
Will udpate as soon as it in.
Oh and I stopped today cause of a headache from this.

And it looks like I have a unibrown but I don't.
Anyway back to playing skyrim.

Re: My brand new civic...
Just get a can of engine degreaser and use it as directed. It'll save you a tonne of hassle getting it cleaned up.
I just saw somebody using WD40 and a brush to clean up the inside of the engine bay (on this forum probably) and it worked really well without damaging the original paint.
Nice work though, again.
