Talimena Scenic Drive 2008 (56k no)

So I think i'm going to make this a yearly thing to try and make it out to this place. I love Talimena Scenic Drive. It's a 54 mile road built almost entirely on top of the Quachita Mountains. It starts in Talihina, Ok and ends in Mena, Ar (hence the name, Talimena).

Anyway I took a ridiculous number of pictures but to spare everyone the bandwidth, I cut it down to post only 37 pictures and sized them all down to 640x480. Enjoy.

And then, there's the panoramic view I made (slightly resized)....

Thanks everyone! I couldn't believe that after 2 minutes of posting, there were already 5 replies, lol. Anyways, i'm using a simple point-and-shoot Sony DSC-H7 with a Galileo II tube adapter with a UV and circular polarizer filter. This is like my fifth camera i've ever owned so i've learned how to use them down the line.

Nah, I love my stock black mirrors and I think my oem tails are perfect. Some people who aren't familiar with my gen civic think my tail lights are aftermarket...go figure huh, lol. And I have been thinking of getting some slim profile visors similar to the jdm ones but I haven't decided yet.

awesome car, even better pics. nice background for the car. i agree with what everyone is saying that a SLIM window visor would compliment your car theme nicely.

Re: Talimena Scenic Drive 2008 (56k no)

Thanks again everyone.

Yes this is probably a very far drive from Florida being that the road is split between the Oklahoma/Arkansas border, lol.

I can't find any slim visors. I really don't care for the JDM visors. I still think they bulge out more than I would like.

My rims are 16x7 Rota GT3's in Royal Gunmetallic. I'm dropped on stock shocks and Neuspeed Race springs. I've been on this setup for over a year and have had no problems. Another thing to take into consideration is that I live in Oklahoma which is one of the leading states in poor road conditions...which is very true. So for my car to hold up with that kind of set up under those circumstances is impressive even to me.

Re: Talimena Scenic Drive 2008 (56k no)

I live in Durant, some friends and I ride that road at least once a month on our bikes (motorcycles). I love it. Maybe you could hit me up some time and I could meet you there with my car. I have been promising the wife I would take her so.

Give me a holla on AIM and we can talk.

Re: Talimena Scenic Drive 2008 (56k no)

Alpha 5, that sounds like a good idea. But I don't think i'll be headed out there any time soon...at least not this year. I'll probably wait until spring time before I head back out there agian. But yea, more riding buddies to go along for the trip isn't a bad idea. I'll keep you in mind man.

And about the front lip...I am never painting my front lip. It looks perfect just flat black. Aside from that, i've seen other people with painted front lips and didn't really care for how it looked. If I did a close up of it, you would see all the rock chips and scrape marks on it. Thus, it would not be very attractive to have a painted front lip with missing paint....just wouldn't be worth it, even though I have a spare lip anyway.

Good deal, just when ever is good for you. I am usually available on weekends.
One of my buds dad runs the motel on the top of the mountain, so I could probably get us some good rates if you wanted to crash. Just an idea.

Re: Talimena Scenic Drive 2008 (56k no)

^Thanks buddy. It's actually a Mugen front lip even though I ordered a Spoon lip. I tried to order another Spoon lip from a different place and yet again, they sent me the same Mugen lip...so that's how I got a spare lip, lol...and that's the story behind the stickers too because I got the stickers before I got the lip and put them on beforehand. Ever since then, I just never felt like taking them off. And yes, that painted hood molding made a big difference once I installed it. Still deciding if I should do the same with the rear...that'll probably be the last thing I do since i'm done modding so I can put more of my focus into school and whatnot.

Photoshopped this one a little bit. Just made the color stand out a bit more and added a border. Took like seriously 40 seconds, lol.

Re: Talimena Scenic Drive 2008 (56k no)

My friend saw this thread so we spent our Thanksgiving @ Talimena. Well, most of the time was driving there and getting lost. We didn't even go through the whole thing because I had to get back for Thanksgiving dinner, therefore not many pics. I'll post up some more later, in a new thread of course. We also got some of the drive on video.

Nice man, did you at least get to see Sunset Point Vista (near half-way point) and Grand View Vista (Arkansas side near border I think)? Those are the two best lookout points that make the trip truly worth while...

Also, if you ever head back there, next time I would suggest taking I-40 til you pass Checotah and a few miles afterwards, exit to get on Highway 2 which takes you through Porum. Then at Whitefield, take Highway 9 to Stigler and from there, just follow Highway 82 south til you get to Talihina. I found that way to be the best appetizer route.

I am amazed that your drop withstood the Oklahoma roads. I live in San Marcos Tx for school(we have really shitty roads), and I am on Progress springs and stock shocks. I have blown both fronts in the matter of 4 months aha.
