Looking for EM2
Looking for EM2
well i'm looking for a car and the EM2 seems to be a good choice. I was looking for something sporty, very reliable and cheap on gas. I was looking at an older EK but where I live it's hard to come across an older car that hasn't been eaten away by our harsh winters. So how fun are these cars to drive? I know our Si model has 127hp, that should be enough to have fun and learn how to drive properly. Any mods I could do to bump up the power without FI? Also what should I look at when buying these cars? Are there any recalls I should know about? Any other info you guys have would be greatly appreciated

I'm guess your from Canada if you refer to an SI with 127hp. Yes the car is fun to drive. Add some sways bars and say hello to taking on ramps at 60mph I think thats like 90kph. Buy a 2003-2005 as the 2001-2002 have transmission issues. Actually a 2002 would be ur best bet bc they come with the bigger sway bar up from and combine that with an rsx rear sway bar and your golden. Bolt ons won't do much but do add some fun to the drive. Good luck.
so I should look into a 2003? I think that might be out of my price range. Yes I do live in Canada. How much do RSX sway bars go for? I guess I could also do some chassis stiffening like front and rear strut bars. Maybe some aftermarket struts and springs because I dont want to put on coilovers because i'm the sure the salt they put on the road in the winter will just eat away at them.

There's nothing wrong with looking into 2001-2002 models I was just stating that "some" ppl have had bad synchros with their transmission for those years. It's pretty much luck of the draw I guess. RSX sway bars go from 30 bucks to 100 bucks no more than that. Tokico blues and some mild drop springs and you'll be praising us for buying that civic.

Front sway = about 120 from progress
Rear strut = don't purchase bc you won't feel the difference
Front strut bar = $30 bucks from ebay to $130 for neuspeed (buy used neuspeed)
Rear sway = 30-100 bucks for rsx rear sway
Shocks vary but average price is 400 give or take sale at truehonda for like $369 for tokico
Springs vary from 50 - 200 depends if u want used or new.
Hope this helps. Remember these are ball park prices to give you an idea and may be more since these are US prices and not Canadian.
Check out www.dezod.com he's got a complete suspension package I know with everything you would need for the 7thgen civic.

I got mine when I was 17 (now 19) and I love it still, just went thro a period where I hated it a lil but thro that now. I learn to drive stick on my car and its really fun to drive, but the lack of power sucks. Next car is gonna have more power definately.
Oh...I have an 01 Lx 5-speed with 50k and no tranny problems at all(besides reverse is sometimes hard to get in but thats nothing big)

machs car is clean maybe you can buy his
.. i agree that the em2 is a good choice car, very reliable and durable in my personal experience, i got a 4door same principle though. my car has took such a beating and it still runs like a champ
... yeah our cars arent really made for the speed but if you boost you wont be disapointed. the d17 is highly capable of making power as many of other 7th gen members here are making insane power. you can always go nitrous if you are on a budget also.
