***PLEASE READ THIS!!!*** VIN protection and car protection
Ima go with the black electrical tape, it doesn't stand out as much as a card, and if APD asks i'll simply explain the reasoning for it.
Plus ima be sure the local dealerships are aware.
Thanks injencivic

sorry to bring back an old thread, but i just want to reinforce this, i have seen this happen in person recently, and yes it IS legal to cover your VIN, the only ppl who would need to see it is the cops, and it is on your registration and inside the door panel, so do not hesitate to cover it up.

Right, bat belts FTL. Whatever, like Adam said, NY had chosen to put the vin on the registration sticker, so short of putting a piece of tape on the outside of my windshield to cover that on the inside, we here in NY are pretty much screwed.
the fact of the matter is. all dealerships require proof of ownership, but sometimes you catch that one guy "that doesnt give a ****" or trusts people and believe all people are naturally honest. I mean just today I took my car to the honda dealership to get serviced and I handed my keys, when I got back I talked to another guy, I was like yea thats my car over there.. guys never seen me before, hes like ok here sign this and hands me the keys...I said "Well don't you want to check my I.D.?" He said "Ohhhh yeah, right." And looks at my wallet...
