Exclamation Door got booboo today - tips needed

I know some of you guys have had that one bad day where you return to your car in a parking lot and do your quick inspection and find a nasty new flaw. seems to happen to me more frequent than i like

well today i get back to my car and there's a nice door damage on the driver's side, and of course no vehicle the space over. There doesnt seem to be any crease or dent, just that annoying through-the-clearcoat scratches/scuffing. the worst damage looks like the door chiseled a chunk of horizontal ridge that the doorhandle lies on. on the bright side, the base coat (the first coat of red after primer) is there and at least the bare metal door shell isnt exposed. From the location of the damage, it was probably a newer suv or pickup.

no photoshop here... that "burst" outline is really the clearcoat showing.

inside is dull paint (looks darker without clearcoat)

woe is me.

i suck at taking pics

I dont want to go through insurance since its a small thing (even though im making a big deal ) my car already has a good share of dents and scratches so i thiink i can get used to it, i just dont want the rest of the paint chipping off and the door rusting up

Should I cover it up with some sticker or get it repaired? Will the shop have to repaint the entire door or can it be filled in and just paint that area?

yup that door's already been through a repaint, which is why i suspect the top layers of paint and clearcoat chipped off easily

its actually factory red color. the sun, my old digicam, and lack of photography skills make it look wierd

Dude, I have the same exact problem with you. I got like 15 dings all over my car, this is all due to the thin light body of civic which is not strong enough to handle when people carelessly open their door and hit our civic. I brought my civic to a body shop and had them did paintless dent removal and now my civic looks brand new. I suggest park your car further and avoid parking next to van just because they have a lot of children and don't care when they open the door and also "WOMAN" driver avoid them.
