Whats up all. I have a couple questions concerning a car my brother is about to buy. Its a 97 civic with a 2000 front end. It has a B16 JDM with headers, intake and exhaust. Interior is mint and car drives good and pulls hard. It does have a racing clutch, but was kinda of hard going into 3rd gear. After 3rd everything else is fine. He did mention that over 80mph feels like the wheel is shaking slightly, not really serious (not sure if that could be the axle). What are somethings I should ask and look for before purchasing this car since it does have a swap already done to it. The price right now is at $5500. 70,000 on the chasis and about 50,000 on the motor.

ok, on a serious note, the vibration can be due to warped wheel or bent/broken tie rod. The price is pretty good I think.

if the guy is on a budget, he could have not balanced the wheels and tires. I have that problem...bought some rims and tires from this guy and put them on and my car vibrated above 60 but got them balanced and i was good to go...or you might ask him if it ever got aligned or wheel balanced...

Matter fact he did mention the suspension was heated and he had a stock pair, But my brother is looking to change the suspension if he buys the car. So with that being said maybe the heated suspension fuked something up, like you mentioned the tiebar or something. You made a valid point. How would I know if the axle is not good.

I'll be sure to ask if the wheels are balanced, they did look brand new. Never seen some si stocks so fresh and so clean....
My brother test drove the car and said it drove good and pulled good. He has a 95 coupe now which he just sold for $1800. It had elecrtical problems which was fixed be he didnt want to deal with it.
I'll be seeing the car today and I'll test drive it myself. But Ill ask a million more questions then he did.

well, 2 things to look for, the boot itself (torn/leaking is bad), and when driving, if youre taking turns at full lock and it makes this noise as if something is rubbing, axle is done. Doesnt even have to be fast turns, just normal everyday driving. Tie rod involves taking off the wheel to get a good look at it.

Smog it? Hmm never heard of that, We are in Jersey, they are not strict on the smog and restrictions you guys have in Cali, thats if I understood correctly.
