why does everyone say something different about the color of the k's?? alot of people told me 8000k were the bluish ones and 6000k is more white and the higher up you go from 8000k it starts getting to be the illegal colors.

Retrofitting, as I understand it, is putting projectors on your OEM lights. Like homemade projectors, I think. Don't really know why it's better, so...

See my post in the last page. I just posted a pic of the OP's HID vs. retrofit into Eclipse. Benefits = clean cut off, consistent lighting, no glare.

ya retro is stealing the whole projector and bulb setup from another car like audi, bmw, s2k and putting it in civic tyc housing or even oem (alot harder).

bixenon is where in a projector there is a glare shield for the cutoff line...but when the high beams are hit, a solenoid moves the glare shield so you get a lot of high glare...most bixenon setups are accompanied by a halogen reflector for high beams...single xenon is a single beam projector with no solenoid

My 04 retrofit.

If you want the bmw blue and purple flicker you need to do a retrofit. The reason bmws flicker is because they have projectors. The projectors focus the light in a cut off and the light changes to different colors of the light spectrum at the cut off.

When the cut off hits eye level, the human retina can only see a limited amount of color differences so your brain just picks the dominate color. Thats why it seems like its blue or purple at a distance and its yellow up close.

HID kit + halogen reflector = brighter headlights period. No flicker, no focused cut off or wider beam.

lumens is the amount of light produced. Luminance is brightness.

6000k seems like more light because the luminance is higher but you lose lumens.

3000k you get more lumens but you lose luminance so it looks like there isn't as much light. This is why 3000k is used for foglights because it produces so many lumens it can cut through the fog and it doesn't get reflected back from the water vapor.

4300k is the best combination of lumens and luminance. It also produces the least amount of eye stress when driving as well. This is why OEM use 4300k on the oem hids.

yup once again mike...im using 2500k noyka hyper yellow bulbs for my fogs, i have my high beam reflector stained yellow and i have 6000k hids

also projectors have color at the cutoff because it essentialy is a prism which splits light into a range of colors in the visible spectrum

but alot of projectors dont have colors (stock). Only ones i've noticed are hyundai and cougar. bmw and mazda3 i've seen dont have any and yes i've bent my head down as they were passing.

is that just film or are the hi beam bulbs also yellow?

high beam bulbs are stock sylvania 9005 bulbs...i took my headlights appart again after a long while from blacking out to clean the inside and i used stained glass paint to paint the reflector...the stained glass paint doest require surfaces to to be sanded because its sticky and its hard to sand glass so it was just spray a few coats color match to each side than let dry...

also it usually depends on how the glare shield is bent to determine the outcome of the color band at the cutoff

yea...retros are very difficult if you have no or very little hands on experience doing things like this...plus it requires a lot of tools...its not too bad considering a lot of people have done it but the easy way is to take aftermarket projector headlights and retro in the right size projectors...like TYC with valeos and etc
