car got stolen and they took me ex motor and tranny out the car....... call honda and they said that it will cost me about 8-9.5 g's to replace. i was wonder will the insurance company will just cut me a check to replace the motor and tranny or i will have to take it up to a shop to get the same motor replaced.
it is 05 ex-se
have anyone heard of the insurance company just cutting a check like that please help......... i would rather have that dc 5 motor and tranny if they will cut me a check.

Rep Power: 346 normally what they do is cut honda a check if they're the ones doing the estimate.
If you know any mechanics... take it to their shop and have them write up a quote for your insurance company... they'll cut a check to your mechanic and just get him to get you a K20/tranny.

Rep Power: 359 lol probaly selling it on ebay for 500 bucks that is weird imo, but they will not cut you personally a check it goes to the person doing the work, so go to an independent person maybe a friend if you have one, and get the parts you want yourself and use the money for it, it may be the greatest thing ever happened to you

Rep Power: 296 sux about the engine getting stolen. But those guys who stole must be honda noobs to steal a d17? Would you risk having to share a cell with a guy named bubba for $500?!?! lol....i just think its funny.
But still sux that the car got stolen though.

Rep Power: 264 where is the civic's value. you can buy a d17 for 500 on ebay so that would tell you its all in the frame, body, suspension. yet at the dealer the whole cars value is the engine and tranny.

Rep Power: 294 1. take care of the stolen billfold, call all your credit cards and call the True Credit and have a credit theft sign attachted to your name. That way no one can open an account in your name. Call your bank too.
2. Depending on your insurance company, this could be bad or good. For instance, Progressive has their own shops, when something like this happens, they take the car and fix it themselves, you don't really get a choice in the shops. State Farm on the other hand, will give you a choice of shops. The backyard insurance company my friend has will cut you a check for the damage and leave it up to you to fix. So you have to play it by year.
A '05 Civic EX will not be totaled for this, if it is, like someone else said buy it back and fix it in a small shop, you can put a K20 in cheap, there where guys doing it on here for just over $3k, no not the K20A2, but still it's a better motor.
