Blacked out 04 headlights updated with pix on pg. 1...56k maybe

my bro and i got into a car accident with our 04 vic so a lot of things had to be replaced (1300 in parts alone)...anyways the bodyshop which we got it repaired at replaced the headlights even tho they could have just plastic welded the little nubs on the top of the headlights back on...so they ordered a new hood, new grill, new set of headlights, new hindges, new upper tie bar, radiator, radiator mounts etc...the old lights had very very little damage so i decided to black them out today...damn what a pain in the *** it was to take the headlight appart...my hands still hurt from doing it...even after using a blow dryer to melt the seal...

not on the car yet but here are some pix...still need to fix a fish eye i got while painting on the right headlight...

Is your vic a sedan?? Im guessing its the same as 01-03 that coupes use black silicone which is a lot easier than the sedan one where they use grey......

its an 04 coupe...grey sealant was a bitch to get off...i'll either borrow a friends camera or try to find mine so i can get pix up...i still need to seal the headlights up....still in 2 peices...didnt have time to seal it up because when i finished painting and curing it was 30 mins b4 i had work...doesnt look much diff...they fixed a dent that was in the fender caused by a fu(ker at the honda dealership, painted some of the scratches that were on the front bumper...only thing that i find they went cheap on while fixing it was when they got the new hood they didnt spray the underside of it nor the front upper tie bar with metalic basecoat/clearcoat but they just sprayed it with a grey single stage paint...oh well no one sees it anyways...but damn the new headlamps which are in look freakin clean cuz they're brand new ...well ill try to get pix up for u guys

awesome, i just blacked mine out sunday....the whole process really wasnt that hard, just it was f*ckin COLD outside. i also put in silverstar low beams while they were out, and i must say they look better too.

i know what you mean about accidents leading to parts, just this past wed, someone hit my car sometime after i parked and rode with a friend to college, so i ordered a carbon trunk just last night. wasnt the exact order i wanted to go in, but needing a new trunk i might as well not spend the money twice. oh yea, they left with no insurance or anything, so its out of my pocket or rates will go up....so out of my pocket.

Sup raging spam, where in RC are u? im on miliken and church. Anyway thats good that everythings fixed.. Most people are scared to put headlights in oven but it works, warms up the glue and its easy to take off.

yes the oven works miracles,

if you put it in oven it will pull apart very very easily, i did my first headlight with haridryer and then saw how haard it was and talked to impulse and he recommended the oven. i did the second one in oven and came a part in less that a minute, unlie the other one which took 30 ****ing minutes

Headlights look awesome. What's your procedure on blacking out them headlights? How long do you put them in the oven, etc.?

i just used a general acrylic enamel from autozone for the basecoat on the chrome plastic at first and i only sprayed 1 layer...after i let it dry for about 15 mins i went ahead with 1200 degree high temp paint from autozone...forgot what brand but most autozones carry them...both were black...the acrylic was a glossy black and the high temp was more of a mat black...turned out good...i just need to respray one of the housing which i fixed mistakes than back in the oven to cure then sealing up to put in the car
