Advise on car?
Heres the thing, I just started college about 2 hours from my house in a little town where my unviersity is.
Ya'll know my car, body kit, 19s, slammed. Well the roads here are absolute ****, its really giving my car a good beating, and its really frustrating...
Im kind of thinking of trading it in and getting an SUV, like an Explorer Sport (2002-2003 model). I have been looking around a little bit and really like those (I know its a Ford and I normally hate Fords too, I used to have a 1998 Explorer and these are a lot nicer now, Sister has an 02 4 door Explorer). I can probably trade in and get a used one for around 15 or so I wouldnt have to shell out too much money, cause afting parting my car out I would have some money. The Explorer Sport I would get would probably have less miles or right around what I have now (i have 33k, most Im looking at are in the 20k mark).
Another thing- my insurance would probably go down (The civic has rediculous insurance holy crap...) I know gas would be a little more but can deal with that. I really want to have cargo room to carry stuff and be able to not have to worry about roads, etc. I would also stop spending on my money on a car that in the end, is still a civic. And for some reason, I dont really want another car (so please dont say get a RSX or something, I want cargo room).
I dont know- Im going to talk to my mom and step-dad tonight and see what they say, I know my mom doesnt want me selling my car but it drives her crazy about how I mod it and stuff, plus she loves explorers.
What yall think?

DON'T DO IT!!! your car is tight man, dont ditch it.
why did you take your car with you anyways? most college freshmen just leave their cars at home.

do you live there? if so, you dont need a car. ask any other college student if they brought their car on campus their freshman year and i would bet 95% of them did NOT.

must be a small school then cause all the ones i looked at wont let you have a car till you are a junior or some even say you have to be a senior
Gas is not gonna be a little more but a lot more. Well i bought the civic in my freshmen year but it was a waste other than going home on the weekends, and it hurts to see my car baking under the sun and sprayed by sprinklers during the week.

Wouldn't it be easier to just buy a set of 16 or 17" rims and turn the coilovers up a little bit?
Seems more economically feasible than buying an SUV that'll do nothing but suck gas.

I sure wish my car was newer

Well, for starters, you don't need a car at college. Mine is at home, and I've had no problem getting to Schnucks or Target. Then again, I'm on an urban campus, and I'm not 1) paying $600 to park and 2) not paying a dime to park where my stuff could get jacked.
With that said, I vote no on the explorer. Just follow boiler's advice - buy some smaller rims and raise the car up. Take your stereo out for trunk space.

here is what i do when school starts and winter starts. i take of my body kit, take off my rims and raise it up about 2 inches and i'm basically back to stock. it would take me about 2-3 hours to completley put my car back to stock and i do it. i only keep my car "hooked up" during the end of spring and summer.
about 3 more weeks and my car is going back to stock so i can finally drive it normally instead of dodging each and every pothole i see haha
i managed to save up some $ this summer and i really want to get a 2nd car..... it'll prolly be a early 90s model plymouth voyager or something. its a van so it'll be big and comfortable and i can get one for abour 1000 bucks....... invest about 2 grand into it on repairs and i got myself a classic beater. then after the beater i can completley do my civic (air ride, lambo, custom paint) all in the future so it can chill at my house while i ride the van into the ground.
so bsaically 2 options..... take off body kit and rims and raise it up a bit for school and then hook it back up when school ends
-or-
get a cheap *** beater for daily driving

If'n you're in the market for a Ford Explorer sport, let me know. I'm in your area, and can hook you up with a ford dealer who is a friend of the family that might can get you a little better deal.
