There is no such thing as a perfect order. Everyone does it differently. Probably the most common way if you're just looking for a show car exterior is Rims, Lower it, get a kit, paint it, get a stereo and other crap.
Just go with what you have money for at the moment. There's no need to stretch yourself to buy something you can't afford.

sell the car and get a s2000, thats all you should need to win a show!!! lol.... no boilermaker1 is right it varies everywhere. i first got an exhaust then lowered the car with camber kit, rims, intake, stereo, suspension, exterior features i.e. tyc projectors. and now i am fixin to get new rims lol.

suspension (rims, tires, drop all included in this category), turbo/engine (know whether or not u want to go FI or NA, as this will decide what you need to buy or not buy), stereo/interior, exterior
i'd rather drive a fast well-handling car that shoots out some nice tunes and is appealing to the eyes while i'm driving it. Who cares what the outside looks like...i'll be spending the majority of my time in the car then standing outside looking on it.
