Unfortunately, I live around many of these old people. As a matter of fact, there are 2 major 55-and-older retirement communities within walking distance of my house, so I see the crap that these old people do in their Caddys and Crown Vics. Some 90+ year old lady even ran over and killed like 3 people last year when she stepped on the gas instead of the brake!

All that aside, watch yourself around these old people. Most of them just don't have the reflexes and sharpness of mind that they once had. And unfortunately, on the road, we have to watch out for them.

Wow I didn't think I'd get this much of a response to my post, thanks so everyone that gave their thoughts, I agree that at a certain age you should have your dirving tested every year. My grandmother is in her 80's, can't really walk anymore (can but not for long), she is hunched over, can hear out of 1 ear, has light cataracts, and has about a 30 minute reaction time and she wanted to renew her license, lucky, my mother (her daughter) refused to let her renew it and she was not happy at all. So maybe its the kids of the current elderly that need to step up and tell them, enough is enough, your too old to control a gas powered death mobile.

Agree, some old folks don't need to be on the road. They are a danger to themselves and others. They need to have a certain age where they make you take an annual test to make sure you are a good driver. Anyways. it's not your fault, you don't have to pay for it, so it's not the end of the world. . Good job staying around and calling the police that was the best thing to do. . Good luck on getting the car fixed, hopefully everything comes out ok .

well, i dont wanna kick all old people off the road, hell, there are some 60+ year old guys in muscle cars that drive hella good, and even drive like "reckless 16 year olds" sometimes.. i'm saying keep them off the road if they are not physically able. lilpoot7's gramma is a good example of not being physically able..

old Asian wemen shouldn't be allowed to step foot near the driver seat.

I also had my hooked up vic for two years and never got a ticket, why b/c it was profiled so I had to make sure I was doing everything legally. I had my Ram truck for 3 weeks and got a speeding ticket, go fig.

Half month ago when I was still driving my camry in Yonge st in the morning, in the middle link I drove a normal speed 60km (no speedy), in front of me was an old buick which was an old women driver, you know during the trip I was be alert cause I knew she is not a normal driver with an outstanding driving skill(scary), so I left behind almost 2 cars away from her, but suddenly she completely stopped because she wanted to take a look of the right hand side beautiful apartment, what the hell I couldn't stop even though ABS interact then I hit her back, you know what? She drove away immediately after she "reconized" someone hit her rear, I was soooo **** and pull aside and check how the demage was, I did not call any insurance cause I know it would be my fault but in that case, do you guys think really is my fault? My conclusion is, driving behind to the old folks is like a trap in front of you.

Unfortunately, she now can continue to drive unscathed and cause more accidents on the road. That's how it goes. (sigh)

I think it would have been the old ladies fault, I can see that they might say its your fault if she slammed her breaks to avoid hitting a kid that ran into the street or something but just to look at a building is a stupid reason to stop and in that case they might have tried to point it at her.

Yeah, like the insurance company would actually believe you that the old lady just stopped to look at something.
And you KNOW she'd never admit to wrong doing.

Handsonme,

I don't know who you are referring to, but personally I see it every day in Los Angeles. I am getting pretty burned out driving here. Sometimes, no, make that all the time, I wish I lived out in the country. But....... hard to make a living there.....
And, yeah.... the cell phone users are a big problem as well. I cannot understand why everyone can't just use a hands free kit.
Maybe I'm just venting, but I have had some pretty close calls involving elderly and cell addicts.

too bad he didn't have nine drivers in the car, and drove for living.

the guy who hit me totalled my car and caused me 2 surgeries, over 25 stictch, and injured both me and my girlfriend in the car.

So you want to go from a low percentage of drivers over 70 to a high percentage of drivers over 70? Around here, the country, during the day about 90% of drivers are 70+. It's not too bad though as long as you don't drive around the post office or wal mart.

OMG yestersday afteroom when I was driving in HWY 7 toward east in the fast link, in front of me is a Jeep and a 93 corolla in front of the Jeep, hopefully I have quite long distance with the Jeep and the miserable story in the Jeep begin...while we were pass leslie road still toward east and there has a traffic light before us, the light turn yellow in a sec then the 93 corolla suddenly stop(a complete stop) and the Jeep behind her couldn't stop then turn to middle link then hit by a van but the van could not stop as well cause he couldn't expect that with his speed pass that yellow light, I can see how the demage was in the Jeep cause something peel off from her car, the right-hand side headlight is broken and the right corner of her bumper is demaged. The woman in the Jeep drove beside the corolla and blamed the old woman inside the corolla, WTH the old woman blamed her back then drove away. What I can see is 2 cars crashed but the key is the old woman, she just can't do that stupid stop to suffer someone else in the road, I was so **** as you guys can feel it cause we love car, and concern about the lost of the Jeep. If this happen again I hope the Jeep just hit the fuvking old woman back and I surely will be her witness without hesitation.
