can you swap the 03 center console with a 01-02? i don't like the armrest and e-brake handle... and can you take off the headrest on the rear seats?

yes. all the 01, 02, 03 consoles are interchangeable. Just make sure you also get the panel with the Cigarette Lighter (12v socket) for the same year you're swapping to. The 03 console has a horseshoepiece that connects the front of the panel to the bottom of the lower end of the dash. The 02 console doesn't connect to the lower dash at all, but you still need the 02 style CigaretteLighter panel for the console to fit/look right.

Im not sure if the 03 center console is interchangeable with 01-02 civic's. The 01 and o2 civic has the e brake in a different location than where the 03 is mounted. You will have to move the ebrake to get the 03 center console in
yup, civicdud's correct. The '03 shifter and ebrake are closer together. In the '02/'01 models, the panel surrounding the ebrake has a square bin in front of the ebrake. You would only have to unscrew and adjust the placement of the ebrake sytem, and tighten the wires connecting to the ebrake.
Notice that the ebrake handles are also differently styled.

yup. be warned though: You may have to drill new holes into the frame of the car to bolt the ebrake system into its new position.
From the looks of things, you'll be moving the ebrake handle back further. I don't know if moving the whole system back farther will affect the brake cables. It looks like they will become 'looser' when you move the system back. Your dealership will tighten the cables for you, the next time you go for maintenance.

please excuse me for using such redundant terms.
by 'ebrake system', i mean the whole parking brake assembly. See diagram.

All of #1 is attached to #2. #2 is what you have to move around to make #1 fit correctly through the surrounding panel in a 2002 center console. #6 and #9 are the cables that will become loose when you move #2 farther back.
