The Truth (Mufflers)
The Truth (Mufflers)
When I first got my new muffler and axleback piping put on I was all hype. I just stared at it waiting to hear what it sounded like. The guy who installed it jumped in my ride and reved it a few times... My face dropped. I could barely hear it! I don't know what happened.. All my friends have exhausts and stuff but they have had them much longer than me and I didnt hear them when they were first installed. They all have different sounds (high pitch, low pitch, good, bad) even the ones on the same model cars sound different. People tell me all kinds of stories about how they spray water into their mufflers to make it sound louder or better pitched and then some people tell me they rev up all the time to get it worn in. Point is.. Is there a way to control the sound quality.. How do you make your exhaust system louder.. or better pitched..
I didn't want to be "Rice", but I also am only 18 and am paying the notes and insurance on the ride so I opted for an axle-back piping. I plan to finish the other half when I get my headers. (Should I get honda headers or wait for my warranty to run out?)

honda headers??? you mean stock or the dc headers some dealerships sell you for a arm and a leg and a few other body parts. honestly you will be lucky to get 10 hp out of a full i/h/e our cars dont respond well to mods. save your money if you want your civic to have any kind of speed your going to have to bust out with a k20 or turbo and even with that your barely breaking 14's

Indeed. . .the RIGHT exhaust makes all the difference.
From what I've heard:
Magnaflow - Quiet and subtle
DC TSC - Throaty, but LOUD at higher RPMs (I have this, and highly recommend)
Greedy Evo - Fart cannish but good flow
Other brands I don't even consider for myself. But there are brands that are loud, if that's what you really want.
NOTE: A cold air intake will make a HUGE difference in the note of your exhaust. If you don't have one, get one. Even a short-ram intake will make a big difference in the note of your exhaust.
Lastly, a good header will also augment your exhaust note. I JUST installed my DC stanless header about two weeks ago. With my Injen CAI and DC TSC it made a difference. At WOT my exhaust is louder than it used to be. . .at idle and lower RPMs it didn't change much, if at all.
Remember, your exhaust will always be louder when you're putting a load on the engine, too. Mine's the loudest right after I rev up and shift into second gear. . . . good torque load on the engine does wonders for hearing your own exhuast.

But you're right. . . don't expect much out of the mods in the way of performance. . . just expect that you'll be putting some pretty metal on your car and it'll make it sound nicer. lol

i have a injen intake, hp header, high flow cat, and cutom medrel bent piping, with a sebring exhaust, and my ish is freaking loud... you can hear me 1 mile away(litterally). and i would be at only 1,500 rpm
I do have an intake and It did make a difference.. But really the only time I like the sound is at full throttle when i am flooring it in 3rd and 4th gears. I mean How can I make it sound good at idle or just sitting there revvvving for the bystanders?? I mean I obviously cant floor it through a parking lot in 3rd and 4th gear... (still not answered does age of the exhaust have anything to do with sound or crazy things like spraying watter into your muffler) (I think the water in the muffler is bogus) (and bad for your car)

Trust me. . . our engines can't be that loud at idle. Not enough displacement. Unless you run without an exhaust, altogether.
At lower RPMs. . . again, lack of power usually equals lack of noise.

Agreed....you are just gonna have to deal with it not being loud at idle...it just can't be.

i showed her the dealer said I could get honda brand header instead of my normal exhaust manifold. Honda has a performance tuning website with performance parts you can put on your ride without voiding the warranty.
Tell me what you don't like about yourself....

Go get this website from your dealer please. I'd buy some Honda performance parts.
Thanks,

trust me, when you put on your header... it will make your car really loud and deep

This is what I hate about the domestic scene.....redneck drivers, thinking their redneck cars are the shiz.
Wanna stereotype us? We can do the same thing back to you.
